Great win. Couldn't make it but it would give you a lift on the radio! Great to beat a team that would be traditionally operating above us. Thoughts of that qualifier years ago where we really took the game to them only to lose by 3.
Serious character shown by the team. Nobody has mentioned the referee -I know it's not an easy job especially in the conditions but Martin McGowan was nearly having a conniption on Ocean fm over the repeated awarding of soft frees for Laois players falling to the floor. Apparently, if you queried it at all, he brought it forward. Any thoughts ?
We had a must win game by 8pts against Tipp to stay in Div 3 and that didn't go so well. We are in a better place now and that win will give a boost to confidence and morale. Time to avenge that TC cup 'square ball' defeat.
We'll not miss next Sunday.
Best of luck

In fairness Martin go to line is I am not I one to give out about a referee but…..:)
Hsi Passion for Leitrim is undoubted but has definite bias in commentary.

But I love it.
Great win at the weekend. Let's hope the can show some consistency a get over the line against Sligo

Replying To EddieMatt:  "Well done today, Huge improvement in the Aughrim performance.

Based on the table after Round 6 the permutations are straightforward.
If Leitrim beat Sligo they are promoted, and
If Laois win the will leapfrog Sligo on scoring difference
Wicklow's scoring difference suggests they need both Leitrim and Laois to draw or lose to have any chance of promotion.

So let's get behind the team next Sunday and give them them the support they need."
Not true. Why do PP have the following odds on promotion? Sligo 1/2, Wicklow 4/6, Leitrim 6/5, Laois 6/5. Head to Head trumps score difference if 2 teams finish level on points.

I'm guessing it's because a big factor in their odds is that Leitrim have to beat Sligo, and I'm guessing they have Sligo as favourites in that regard. If we lose to Sligo, scoring difference won't be worth the bytes of data to store it.

The odds are correct only in so far as / Wicklow should be about the same, and Leitrim / Laois should be about the same... but Sligo odds are ridiculous.

Match Odds Leitrim (5/4) Draw (7/1) Sligo (5/6). Why would you bet on Sligo at 1/2 when the match odds of 5/6 is the same thing, they'd be promoted! (adjust to cover the draw easily).

In my book very roughly : - Sligo 55% of promotion, Wicklow 52% chance Leitrim 48% Laois 45%

Sligo are 1/2 for promotion because they can afford to draw and will still be promoted. There is also a scenario (unlikely) where Sligo lose and would still get promoted.

The stand alone promotion odds take all scenarios into consideration.

I see fixtures are out for the spring leagues. Does anyone know why Eslin and Glenfarne/Kitty aren't entering this year. They did last year. I know it's only the spring league but surely competitive games before the start of the actual league is what clubs should be aiming for to improve?l. Are their playing numbers bad? Are there managers in place?

seen that. lack of numbers and probably feel they would not get far against intermediate/senior teams even without county players. neither side got by the quarters of the JAFC last year, Eslin beaten by Annaduff's junior team

Very interested to see what team Moran/Sloan put out this weekend.

Sligo play a two man full forward line with Murphy and O'Connor inside who are two exceptional footballers.

They flood the middle third with Spillane, Lally and Kilcoyne and have Carrabine on the 40 who is a deadly forward at this level.
They then have Luke Towey who was in Aussie Rules running hard from the half back line.

Hopefully Donal Casey is back to mark Carrabine on the 40 which will solve a lot of our problems.

I would then detail Mark Plunkett to drop out and act as a third midfielder to tag Spillane. This would give Spillane something to think about as he would have to defend aswell. Paul Keaney and Pearce Dolan should be more than able to hold their own then in the middle third.
Who is told to follow Towey is what worries me. I think I would put Aidan Flynn on him. And then Paddy Maguire on Niall Murphy.

They will have lots to worry with us then as well. I feel like they struggle for a real top quality man marker so who they put on Beirne will be interesting.
This is a huge game for this group going forward. Win and we have serious momentum and another day in Croke Park.

Hopefully there is a huge crowd for this game.

Best of luck to all the squad.

Interesting to note on the Sligo forum they seemed to have had a bit of a goal drought in the league.
Leitrim have conceded only one goal (albeit a sloppy one v london). That's a credit to our backs and goalkeepers.

Obviously them lads listed above can are well able to kick points and from distance when they are top of the table on the final weekend.
I hope we don't stand off them and afford them the chance to have a pop for the sake of defending just around the D / scoring zone.
Once we turn it over, we have more lads becoming a scoring threat as Beirne gets attended to.

Great to be in this position. Hopefully a big crowd to be a 16th man and a good performance from the Ref.
Good luck to the team

See ye there..

As I write, Twitter says that the Leitrim hurlers are leading Longford by 8 points after 33 mins of the second half. Am I right in saying that in the hurling league and the women's football league the teams have to win the final to get promoted?

Our biggest game in a long time. Promotion would mean a successful year imo. I'd be worried Sligo have the better team/athletes but I hope the crowd can get behind the lads and get Pairc Sean rocking, and we get to the league final!! Leitrim abù!!

Best of luck today lads ,a huge game for both teams winner takes all. Hoping we can do it but very wary of this sligo team which has been gathering momentum steadily are strong around the midfield and forward lines in particular and have had the upper hand on us for a good few years now. Today's the day to put in a huge performance and hopefully it's enough to get the win ,we'll soon find out.

Shocking stuff after a bright start. Sligo running us off the field. Division 4 is our level I'm afraid

Listening in to Ocean FM... it's not over but a big half ahead.... I fear it will run away from us if we don't get an early goal. Keeping the faith for now anyhow...

Gutted after that. What a come back, we really should have won that game, simple unforced errors and naivety cost us the game.

The atmosphere in the second half was unreal.

I've said it before we are a very difficult team to analyse, we can go from looking awful, to a team that would be comfortable in a higher division. It is ALL psychological.

Few great performances today, but unfortunately too many passengers. The loss of Casey, Bruen, Ryan O'Rourke, Jordan Reynolds has been huge. I was very impressed with Nevin O'Donnell today and Barry McNulty has huge potential.

On a side note the standard of referring has been shocking. A free was given against Donal Wrynn for nothing that lead directly to Sligo's goal.

New York next will be a serious challenge, I wouldn't be surprised if they bet us to be honest. They always target the years they play us and Sligo.
