21 goals conceded in 5 games. That doesn't seem very prepared.

yeah the best standalone school team beat us and the strongest club teams with everyone available in most of the Div1 counties would probably beat our senior team with everyone available, do you really think we currently operate at a higher level at present? B competitions are our level right now, get used to it. I am happy for both teams and hope they do the business and do us proud, if the structures and not improved and the best players retained, this will not change. Not sure what the big debate is about saying we should be operating on a higher level. gaelsboy (Leitrim) - Posts: 629 - 02/05/2025 11:01:48 2606226 Link 0 |
No I don't think that at all. What I have an issue with is people Bigging these "achievements" up and cheerleaders getting behind it saying the same. This leads into an attitude of "oh didn't we do great" and nobody does anything to improve as we are lead to believe we have actually "achieved" something when in fact we have done the opposite. Saying it was great that a county pick got to a semi final against a bunch of stand alone schools is bordering on pathetic. How is that great?? We have big enough schools in Leitrim (some bigger) than in other counties yet it was "great" that all the schools combined coached by the greatest coach ever it seems in Shane Ward reached a semi final. It's no wonder people pity us. bláthach (Leitrim) - Posts: 49 - 02/05/2025 11:31:36 2606236 Link 0 |
In horse-racing parlance the form lines aren't encouraging but you have to look at the Leitrim football situation in reality. The remaining under-age competitions are secondary ones as indeed is the Tailteann Cup. I'm not being negative, this is the stark reality, we're waffling on with false hopes and wild aspirations in essentially B competitions and while I'm hopeful for some success I'm sadly not overly optimistic. That's the nub of it.

Not overly optimistic either and we have to be supportive of the teams and where they. It is unrealistic to think we can win level A in these underage competitions , but it is important to be able to compete in them and we are making in these areas relative to the past. The best hope is to bring through a few talented players players from these groups. The comment from the previous poster down playing the importance of the Leitrim combined schools team under the management of Shane Ward is wrong idiotic and plain mischievous. The issue is Leitrim youngsters are not used to competing at a high enough level and this gives them an opportunity. I challenge anyone to show me how this initiative is not a really good development. joeman123 (Leitrim) - Posts: 569 - 02/05/2025 12:19:31 2606257 Link 0 |
So we have Kildare away which you'd imagine Kildare would win fairly handy, Sligo at home which we should at least be competitive in and the big one Tipperary in a neutral ground...wherever that will be, nothing much central to either there, Tullamore, Portlaoise or Mullingar all seem out of the way for both teams. Tuam maybe? Perhaps a double header in Tullamore with the Sligo Kildare game boxtyburgerbuns (Leitrim) - Posts: 252 - 02/05/2025 13:20:42 2606276 Link 0 |
Some would claim you're delusional but you keep on thinking whatever you think- not one poster agrees with you. Does that not say something?? Anyway I won't be addressing you again as you are obviously a WUM and I wish the mods would take action on this poster. Thanks.

I am glad to see I am getting under your skin ,;I felt a duty to call out you and the other negative posters who never offer any sensible solutions . Remember John Connolly in the Leitrim Observer referred to the constant barrage of criticism on social media and implied that a number of posters are just waiting for more defeats so that they can justify their obsessively negative criticisms. Finally I once again call out your crazy criticism of the combined Leitrim Schools team initiative. Your stance on this alone shows how short sighted your views on how to improve Leitrim football is. I wish all the Leitrim teams competing in those competitions all the best in the coming weeks.Contrary to your view these are important games and success won't be easy ,particularly with the seniors and U20 games so close. joeman123 (Leitrim) - Posts: 569 - 02/05/2025 15:33:31 2606312 Link 1 |
I think joeman123 is possibly the best contributor on the Leitrim forum. Everything he says is balanced, measured and he has the best interest of Leitrim at heart. The amount of delusional/negative posters on this site is off the radar. Most of you thrive in bad news. Keep it up joe

Can't be a double header. The last round group games will have to be on at the same time. I'd imagine Mullingar or Longford for Sligo Kildare and perhaps Tullamore for yourselves and Tipp or Mullingar if not taken.

I didn't want to name the most negative poster but you are definitely up at the top of the list))

How do ya figure that? Ya lost by 11 at home in the group stage and won by 4 in a shield final against a different team altogether. On aggregate is Galway +7!

Nothing to do with me.However I ask you what constructive suggestions to improve Leitrim football are coming from all the negative merchants on this Forum. Again I refer to the criticisms of the combined Leitrim Schools team initiative and the scoffing at their progress this year as evidence that the whinger brigade haven't a clue. Think about it, their is little top class competive competition for players out of minor ,but still in secondary school. They are now getting an opportunity to play in an organised set up against the elite schools in Connacht, eg St Jarlaths ,St Colmans, Summerhill College. I hope this initiative can continue ,particularly under Shane Ward.Yet one of our fellow frequent poster warriors thinks this is an example of all that is wrong in how Leitrim GAA is being managed. It is disappointing to to all the continuous criticism outrageously negative comments on this forum and perhaps they would be best ignored. However negative destructive and ill thought out criticisms need to be addressed. Finally not for one moment am I suggesting things don't need to greatly mprove and I would love to see practical suggestions grounded in evidence brought forward and discussed in a rational and respectful manner. joeman123 (Leitrim) - Posts: 569 - 03/05/2025 17:16:56 2606464 Link 0 |
Indeed St Colmans, this year's winners are an elite and remarkable side. They have what google says is an enrolment of 370 boys and they beat a school in the final with over 1100 boys. Yes 1100! Pretty astounding to win with those odds stacked against them and that is their 7th Connacht A title. 370 boys is on par to what google says is the enrolment of boys in the secondary school in Carrick. And Carrick is a bigger town population wise to Claremorris, where St Colmans are. And the school in Carrick has a hinterland of multiple villages and parishes across two counties going to it too. I doubt Colmans ever considered merging with other schools to compete even though it is a small school to be up at that A level. I suppose that is what the other poster is on about, a lack of ambition amongst decision makers here. I'd say if you added up the number of boys available to that combined Leitrim team it is higher than any single school in that A division. On that basis the Leitrim team should be winning A titles pretty soon. But as we see with Colmans it isn't always about the numbers, it's about their ambition. So my constructive suggestion here is have three Leitrim school teams competing at that A level or at B at the least, a North combined, a South combined and Carrick on their own. More opportunity for more players. Wouldn't you agree with that? boxtyburgerbuns (Leitrim) - Posts: 252 - 03/05/2025 18:40:26 2606480 Link 0 |
