From Kildare man Burke to a Carlow man Murphy who managed/led Naas to three senior county titles in a row (2021,2022,2023) and Naas before that run hadn't won a county title since 1990.

Interesting weekend of club action across Roscommon. Clubber is a great asset to watch games, across all grades.

Senior:

St. Faithleach's result was easily the biggest surprise of the weekend. Pearses were down a lot of key players but the Ballyleague men will not care about this, a massive 2 points for them in terms of the group. Ciarain Murtagh with some lovely scores, Declan Kenny the standout for a depleted Pearses team.

Clan na Gael over came St. Dominics but Dominics will rue some missed goal chances that could have really made things interesting. Massive game for them in 2 weeks v Faithleachs that will define their season, before they play Pearses in Round 3.

Oran very impressive against Castlerea. An outrageous display of 1st half shooting and real threats all across their team. Fitzpatrick the standout but Lawless and Carthy have real quality. Castlrea battled to their credit but were simply outscored by a classy Oran team.

Boyle made amends for the last time out v Roscommon Gaels. I haven't watched this game back yet but by all accounts Boyle were worthy winners with the goals being the key difference between the sides. Expect a huge tilt from Roscommon Gaels in a massive game at home vs Oran in Round 2.

St. Brigits comfortable winners vs Elphin, which was expected to be the case. It will be interesting to see how Elphin bounce back against Glaveys and Western Gaels, 2 teams they will not fear and will fancy their chances of picking up points against. For Brigits, their 1st tough game in this championship could be a semi final depending on the draw.

Michael Glaveys came from behind to secure a vital win against western gaels who will now be under huge pressure to get a win against Elphin and avoid another relegation battle. This group has the potential to be wide open coming into the final round, unless Glaveys can secure knockout football by turning over Elphin at home in Round 2.

Very sad news on the passing of Don Connellan. May he rest in peace. A player who I admired for years and was delighted to see him succeed both with Nuig and Moycullen. I didn't know him personally but he sounded like the most humble person you could meet. Never looked for the spotlight but worked away hard in the background and never sought praise. He would have made a brilliant manager for the senior Roscommon team too no doubt. Sincere sympathy to his wife, children and extended family at this very sad time. May he Rest In Eternal Peace and now reunited with past Roscommon legends like Jimmy Murray, Dermot Early and Conor Connelly to name but a few

RIP Don Connellan. Such a classy player for Kilmore and Roscommon both on and off the pitch. Success followed him everywhere.

Congratulations to Dara Curran who has been selected on the minor team of the year.
Tyrone 7, Kerry 6, Mayo 1, Roscommon 1. As Connacht champions I would have thought that Roscommon might have got another 1 at least. Surely Sam Hannon should have been in the mix? The selectors must have only viewed the All Ireland semi finals and final as Sam was outstanding in nearly all games this year.
Donegal had some very good minors also and really put it up to Tyrone in Ulster.

RIP Don Connellan ,one of Roscommon and Kilmore's greatest players in my opinion. Had some great tussles with the likes of Seamus Quinn and Gerry Flanagan back in the 90s. Deepest sympathies to his family and friends.

Interesting and very honest (47 minute) interview with Diarmuid Murtagh on the Rossie Podcast. (No 23) Great to hear that he is fully committed to going again in division 1 next year under a new management team.
Nothing whatsoever against Brian Stack who is a fabulous player and motivator, but should Diarmuid be considered as Roscommon captain this year? If St Bridgets win the senior championship as expected and go well in Connacht, Brian could well be missing for several Roscommon matches. Diarmuid did captain St Faithleachs to the county and Connacht intermediate titles a few years ago and it might convince his brother Ciaran to also stick with it for another year at least.
Obviously that decision will depend on the new management team. The sooner they are appointed the better so that they can keep a good eye on the club championship.

Has anyone heard anything about the Roscommon Manager position.? It's interesting to see that the speculation over the Dublin job was wide of the mark. Social media all week had Declan Darcy being the next Dublin Manager but Ger Brennan got it.

Job is offered but the taker can't be known yet. Should be a news drop on it in the next few months. Patience.

Is Andy Moran from Ballaghadereen, Co. Roscommon one of the 3 natives?
