How is he a Mayo man when he's from Ballaghaderreen in county Roscommon?

It's nearly getting to the stage of Premier League transfers speculation. Some lads getting a few quid to invent unlikeable but half-believable stories for clickbait. But it does seem that 2025 has more intercounty manager vacancies than before.

Main time to focus and step up on S&C is 18 to 21. Dublin in their dominant years got than down to a tee and then was smooth transition from U21 to senior

I don't know it'll be an upgrade, just my opinion. But I think Davy Burke's time in charge of Roscommon didn't improve in year 2 and 3 and that's the job McConville is being linked with. Who would you pick?

He would be a massive upgrade on Burke. I suggest you compare both managers Championship records with Wicklow. Burkes was very poor with Wicklow that includes a 28 point loss to Meath.
Wicklow have won quite a few games in the last two years that they would have been massive underdogs.

Because he played for mayo and that's that. Ya need to let it go and forget about it. He has nothing to do with roscommon football and I'm happy with that. I wouldn't want him involved

The town of Ballaghaderreen was once in County Mayo. Around 1900, the county border changed and Ballaghaderreen was moved into County Roscommon. Business rates at the time were cheaper in Roscommon than in Mayo and I believe that was the motivation for the Act of Parliament passed at Westminster that moved the town from County Mayo in to County Roscommon. Ballaghaderreen continued to play its club football in Mayo and still does. When Roscommon were going well in the late 1970s, there were moves about setting up a second club in Ballaghderreen called St. John's that would affiliate to Roscommon but that move was blocked.

Begs the question why was Burke ever appointed so in the first place?

Burke was not a good appointment. I suppose he had managed Kildare to an U20 All Ireland football title but his senior experience was limited and it hasn't worked.Looking in particular at Meath at the weekend, the right Manager can make a huge difference to a team. I still think Roscommon's players are good enough to have been involved at the business end of the championship over the last few years with the right direction.

A massive upgrade should have Wicklow promoted to Div 3. Can't really compare on championship as Burke in his time with Wicklow had no Tailteann cup so we aren't to know how he would have fared.

Any Div 1 team linked with any manager over a Div 4 team as Mayo and Roscommon are then the minimal required should be to get that Div 4 team promoted to Div 3. Wicklow have a better pool of talent than Limerick and Wexford and the manner of the defeat to Limerick in the tailteann cup is a red flag for anyone looking for upgrade.

The best result McConville got in his term with Wicklow was that one point win against Westmeath a few weeks ago and it has to be taken into account that was 6/7 day turnaround for Westmeath against a rested Wicklow. The only teams that won in the All Ireland Quarter finals and tailteann cup with a 6/7 day turnaround this year was the two fittest teams in Kerry and Donegal.

Well to be fair burke won a all Ireland u21 with Kildare. I think he did fairly well in club football to. I think he will be a good manager but he needs to calm down and realise he needs to take the advice of the people around him sometimes and not be so stubborn. He loves football and id say he's obsessed and seems like a nice fella but sometimes you need to take a step back and listen to the lads you brought in to help

Wasn't there a thing few years ago between westmeath and roscommon in the Brigid's area?

Yes and all of this island instead of the six counties in the North was under British rule until the 1920s. What matters is now and it's Roscommon town. That vote I believe was later than later than the 70s, early 90s and the late John O'Mahony had a big say in it as he was Leitrim manager at the time and got both Leitrim and Mayo to vote against it. If done right there should be two clubs with the right choose.

Wasn't that about putting all the built up areas under Westmeath Co Council.?

Drax, Hard luck against Meath. I don't always agree with you but you are right on this. At a minimum, Gaelic footballers in Ballaghaderreen should have the right to choose to play for Roscommon or Mayo. The current situation is unfair on Roscommon as the smaller county of the two. Incidentally, I think Ballaghaderreen parish also has a part of county Sligo. Noel Durcan was a fine player for Mayo in the late 1980s and he was a Sligo man from near Ballaghaderreen.

I'd have no problem with lads given a choice. What would be the nearest Roscommon club…western Gaels?
Would many of the current Ballagh senior club panel want to play for Ros I wonder?

Out of interest did Roscommon not originally run up to the edge of the river Shannon in Athlone? I know monksland is Roscommon which has a fair population but when I was younger I was under the impression crossing the Shannon on the train you were entering and exiting Connacht but Westmeath runs over that….

It happens at Carrick where Cortober is on the Roscommon side of the river all be it both sides are in Connacht. County boundaries after all are imaginary lines drawn by the British but we take them as absolute divides in many ways especially when it comes to sport.
