What's with the ye? Jack L is not from Roscommon and is long term WUM on here. Dublin in Croke Park would have been a typical draw for us after getting Dublin in Croke Park in the last two groups in this format and the two Super 8 groups. A fella asked me when walking out of Croke Park after the Div 2 final what would be a good championship for us? I said getting a knock out tie back here in Croke Park. In hindsight a Preliminary exit wouldn't have been good championship but still would be better than finishing bottom of the group. you sow what you seed, these were the best talent available to mgt and it looked they only started playing with each in the last few weeks. they obviously had't done anything on basic defending, defenders falling for dummies left right and centre in most games. key forward disappearing in games no cohension in forward line, just individual performances. the cb need to get a manager at minimun with county mgt experinces and not let it drag on like the last time. hontherossie (Roscommon) - Posts: 133 - 16/06/2025 12:46:00 2618216 Link 1 |
Mayo don't have the same talent as they had a few years ago but by God do they work and play with serious intensity. The way they went after Donegal in that second half especially. Aidan O'Shea no spring chicken either. You would wonder what our training sessions were like. I would agree it can't be allowed drag on like last time. But not sure we should only look at someone with county experience. That's pretty much everyone from the county ruled out apart from Fergie and Curran. Davy Burke had county experience and then you look at Bannigan, Brennan and Laverty with no county experience and they seem to be bringing on their teams in leaps and bounds.

The over confidence bordering on arrogance catches Roscommon every time. Start a game well then take the foot off the gas start strutting and take the intensity out of the play, let the opposition back into it and repeat this for 70 minutes. When you get on top you need to push on but unfortunately this group of players don't. You'll normally see around the 50 minute mark in a tight game Roscommon will freeze and become pedestrian on the ball then when the game is gone from them they'll make a late burst. Something to work on. Blowin3 (Dublin) - Posts: 2 - 16/06/2025 13:18:18 2618243 Link 0 |
Agreed. The County Board gambled on appointing a Manager with minimal senior inter county managerial experience ( Wicklow) and we have three barren years to show for it. Agree with other posters that on current form we're miles off Dublin so no missed opportunity there. A limited Cork team took us out of our misery. Even if there are retirements, Roscommon have plenty of good players coming through. We've been competitive at underage for several years now and there are fruits from that. Get a good Manager and coaches in and we can reset and go again in 2026. I have no firm views on who should get the job and little confidence in the County Board to get the choice right. I'd like a word with whoever in the Board thought Davy was the man to lead Ros for all of three years.

At the time yes it looked like we were appointing a promising young manager and taking a gamble but it was exciting and the first year there seemed like there was plenty to build on. Going into the second year the coaches changed and we dropped off a bit and the poor year was papered over by one win (Tyrone). Too many interviews were done and things soured a bit. This year then was seen as a fresh start and a really exciting opportunity with new rules and a strong panel with lads returning but we never got going and you can't help but be annoyed by interviews after matches none more so then Saturday. Breffni Park will be the venue for our U17 footballers All Ireland semi final against Tyrone this Sunday at 1:30pm. Ulster venue against Ulster opposition but we won't be complaining like Big Jim did yesterday. The_analyser (Roscommon) - Posts: 4082 - 16/06/2025 15:41:25 2618368 Link 3 |

We first need a bit of confidence from somewhere or spark before worrying about over confidence and arrogance ever under this team.

I genuinely don't know.I think it should be a Roscommon candidate because gaa counties have nearly always done best when managed by one of their own. Gabriel Bannigan has done a great job with his native Monaghan and as somebody said here he had no previous experience. I would always rate Fergal O'Donnell. Apart from the minors, he won a Connacht title in 2010 with a lower division Roscommon team. I'd love to see what he'd have done with the talent of the last few years. May be some issue between him and the County Board.

Exactly, one of the worst wind up posts I've seen. No fear of over confidence or arrogance this year.

Id love to name 3 or 4 people in Roscommon for the job but I can't. Ya don would be a good option but I don't think he wants it right now and as for the likes of fOD are the answers to our problems. We need top top coaches in to try sort out the mess I saw this year dave1988 (Roscommon) - Posts: 1268 - 16/06/2025 16:38:55 2618417 Link 0 |
What about Tom Cribbin? Brought Westmeath to consecutive Leinster finals. bláthach (Leitrim) - Posts: 149 - 16/06/2025 17:00:40 2618433 Link 2 |
In all honesty who is the best man for the job? It will probably have to be a manager from the county. I'm sure everybody can agree, we have great footballers. But they just don't have the motivation and encouragement. See how well Down, Meath and Louth are doing at the moment. It kills me to see them doing so well, knowing that we could be doing the same. In fairness Roscommon have been a yo yo team long before Davy took over. Forget the early 2000's when we reached the last 8-12 on a regular basis. Over the last number of years Roscommon have been punching over their weight at the business end of the season. If Davy does step down potential managers will not be exactly knocking the door down applying for the job Jack L (None) - Posts: 3158 - 16/06/2025 19:56:10 2618490 Link 0 |
In all honesty who do you think will be the next Roscommon manager. I hope it will be somebody from the county, but who? You have to agree that Roscommon have great players. Teams like Meath and Down are playing so well. It kills me knowing that we can be the same. Gaa2001 (Roscommon) - Posts: 7 - 16/06/2025 21:11:20 2618501 Link 0 |
Football is strange after monaghan got put out of the championship we in monaghan said that's that mcmanus retired vinny Corey stepped aside and nobody wanted the job and there was no one that looked capable of taking over in steps g bannigan and in fairness he has them moving well so someone will come in and give the team a bounce and could do well in div 1 next year make a few tweeks and suddenly it happens maybe it's what's needed who knows as I say football is strange Farneyblueandwhite (Monaghan) - Posts: 94 - 16/06/2025 21:57:42 2618516 Link 0 |
