How did SOS get nailed on while there was debate about Paudie Clifford? Don't know where that decision came from!

O'Shea played in the Final, Enda's team lost in last 12.

Team of the Year is based upon performances in the business end of year. Enda did get an honourable mension.
OK Roscommon DID draw with the Dubs in Croke Park (Only team to dent their championship 100% record.
But Roscommon did finish third in their group (which was relatively handy) and bowed out at first knockout match.
SOS played in AI final so he was always going to be in contention

I have to agree with your point there about the last 12. Very few if any players make team of year without even making a semi or at least a quarter final..

There is no doubt Enda had his best year in a Ross jersey and as Lee Keegan said 3 MOMs v Sligo, Kikdare and Mayo. Now tbh I thought Brian Stack or Niall Daly should have got it v Mayo. The thing for Emda was he was anonymous on the big days v Galway, Dublin amd to a lesser extent v Cork. Again that's not taking away from his stellar year.

For me Ciaran Murtagh is very hard done by who was Roscommons best player league and championship and he should at least get an All Star nomination. Brian Stack also has to get a mention as he was rock solid all year and marked the biggest names every week and more than held his own.

Yesterday's final showed how far we in Roscommon are off it tactically, physically and real out and out pace which Dublin had in abundance which allows them play the defensive game and break at top speed. Kerry didn't have it while Derry do amd Galway to a lesder extent.

Even allowing for retirements perhaps McCarthy, Fitzsimons, Rock amd possibly Cluxton again I still feel Dublin are going to be hard bet going forward. Have found a midfield pairing again with Howard and Fenton.

Mannion at 11 flanked by Kilkenny with Con and Basquell inside is going to be a formidable forward line along with two from Small, O'Dell, Archer, Costello, Scully etc. Don't be one bit surprised to see Eoghan O'Donnell full/centre back for hurlers throw his lot in with footballers either. Was on panel two years ago but stuck with the hurling this year. Theo Clancy full back for Dublin u20s is also a huge prospect and has the size and pace for top level. May see him pte season or early rounds of the league.

Hard to believe we won't see any inter County action worth talking about until last weekend in January six months away. The gaa has gone too far and has diluted the whole season too much. Even yesterday at match the lack of a build up and atmosphere was dreadful. No.minor match is a disaster. Its too condensed and 90 euro for one match is a bit steep. 8 euro for a programme on top and its a real rip off.

There's more to the GAA than an atmosphere at an AI Final that 30 Counties have no part in.
If you want atmosphere then give the 2 competing Counties 35,000 tickets each and remove most of the neutrals, various sacred cows who always seem to have a ticket etc etc.
As for timing of County games dovwe really want to go back to the "Fix the fixtures", CPA, uncertainty etc

This year the Ros Leagues were all completed by mid July with no Finals in mid December or the like.
The entire Group stages of the 3 main football Championships were all set out a couple of weeks ago (well done fixtures people) so Club players, officials have plenty of notice of games.
Better than hearing on a Monday night we have a big game Friday...

Seán O'Shea was far from average in the championship. 2-39 he scored no half forward scored more and just two players scored more than that total in the championship. He also scored 2-16 from play again only a handful of players scored more from play and all played in the full forward line.

All Stars and team of year when picked by journalists and pundits nowadays is basically picked on who reaches the last 4 and around 11 or 12 of the 15 will be the AI finalists.

Roscommon will get a handful of All Star nominations probably the two Murtaghs, Brian Stack and Enda Smith.

I thought the speed and pace of players from both teams really stood out and from Derry in the semi. We seem to really be lacking that and hinders the pace which you can counter at. A lot of that is probably natural speed but I wonder can you improve an element of it through training.

Watching Sunday's AI final pretty much confirmed the two best teams in the land fared off and it was probably the final in all but name between the two in the semi final last year. Both games decided on fine margins, went Kerry's way last year and Dublin's way on Sunday.

Dublin have transition period coming up now with so many players in 30s and watching their U20s in action the last 3 or 4 years I'm not sure they have like for like replacements to step in. Kerry rely on Sean O'Shea and David Clifford for the majority of their scores and can't afford to lose either to injury. Clifford "playing poorly" on Sunday still created and scored 1-6 of Kerry's 1-13 he had 4 wides and 1 that dropped short into Cluxton hands.

Don't see a big gap between Kerry.Dublin and chasing pack but it's gap that plenty of counties will be looking to close in on for 2024. Encouraging for us was how competitive we were against the top two this year but on the flip side we are inconsistent losing narrowly to teams we should be beating.

I'm looking forward to the start of the club championship this weekend or be it the weather looks to be poor. Senior group stages will be more interesting and no shadow boxing with just two teams getting out of the groups.

I think Western Gaels will edge Faithleachs.
Boyle to get the better of Roscommon Gaels
Glaveys and Doms a tough one to call with both with so many first choice players out a draw there
Pearses v Brigids another possible draw that game will be streamed BTW
Clann to edge Strokestown
Oran should beat Tulsk

At intermediate level

wins for Kilmore,Eire Og,St Croans,Castlerea,Fuerty and Elphin

Junior A

St Barry's,St Doms,Strokestown,Kilglass,Clann and St Michaels I'd fancy for wins

A big game for both Western Gaels and St. Faithleachs. You imagine the winner would have a straight shootout with Roscommon Gaels for 2nd spot. Depends which set of forwards are on it but I can see Faithleachs edging this by a point or two. Boyle to beat Roscommon Gaels at home. St. Dominics could throw up the surprise of the weekend against Glaveys. They were poor in the league play off although missing Andy Glennon and Dylan Ruane. Brigits to beat Pearses, Clann to beat Strokestown and Oran to convincingly beat Tulsk. Hopefully some entertaining football and see some quality scoring.

Took in tonight's game in Frenchpark, dark and wet night difficult conditions for both teams. 6 each at the break as even as the score line suggested, Faithleachs went on to win by 5 by outscoring the home side 1-6 to 0-4. The games only goal arriving with the last play of the game from Cathal Gunn. Faithleachs didn't overly rely on the Murtagh's for scores tonight, Ciaran with 0-4 and Diarmuid with 0-2. David Rooney had a good match which included 0-4,Cian Gleenon had some good moments also

Western Gaels looked to the Cregg brothers mostly Finbar scored 6 of his teams 10 scores and Cathal his usual busy self.

Elsewhere Dominic's got the better of Glaveys both short on so many first choice players so a win for either was seen as a big one. Glaveys with Pearses and Brigids to play are facing a relegation battle now. Barrys beat Joes in tonights other game in the Junior A championship.

Hopefully the awful weather forecast doesn't ruin the matches tomorrow and Sunday,

Great win for Dominic's over Glaveys though Glaveys might be wondering how they did not win the game. Glaveys losing Conor Hussey in the second half and the introduction of Daire Keenan by Dominic's were key moments in the game when Glaveys had the upper hand. Most impressive for Dominic's were Mark Miley in goals, Eoin McCormack and Cian Kelly while Shane O'Malkey, Conor Hussey and Darragh Heneghan stood out for Glaveys. I fear for Glaveys with Conor Hussey going off with an apparent injury and missing players like Dylan Ryane. As for Dominic's they are possibly 4-5 top players short from giving brigids or pearses a proper run for it but if they got Keenan fit and Doyle back it would certainly help. I thought the ref was very good, at times he was put under immense pressure but kept making the right decisions, was fair, shower no bias and I thought he played the correct amount of additional time at the end. Very impressed.

Think Western Gaels are in serious trouble this year. They looked lost at times yesterday and faithleachs just looked better all round and seem to have more of a game plan. As for my own club Boyle I couldn't believe what I was watching today. It was unbelievable and lots of improvement needed. Watched Pearce's Vs Brigid's this evening and I will say is Ben O'Carroll is a lovely footballer and has everything you want in a corner forward but he needs to work on his shooting. He has a very unusual way of striking a ball and very inconsistent. Something I hope he's working on

As Willie Hegarty wrote in his column, Ben O'Carroll scored 2 points in 6 games. Not nearly good enough for a corner forward. Good prospect but plenty to work on. Boyle were demolished today but Daire Cregg will be a big player for Roscommon in the future. Three goals from Peter Gilhooly. He'll surely get a call from Davy Burke. The gaels didn't miss Richard Hughes gone on his travels. Strokestown also well beaten so a repeat of last year's final looks unlikely but early days I suppose.

With only 2 teams qualifying per Group in the Senior the next Round will be knockout for this weeks losing teams.
Good to hear Gillooly going well. Hopefully James Fitzpatrick also as both would be additions to the County Senior panel.

We also do with a couple of defenders and a midfielder. I wonder how did Shane Cunnane do for Brigid's yesterday.

Agree Daire Cregg will be a top player which is why I thought Senan lambes job on him yesterday was outstanding. Only 18 so a great prospect

Ben O'Carroll's role for Roscommon in the championship wasn't as scoring corner forward more a guy who gives the outlet play, wins and brings others forwards into play and creates more than scores.

Hopefully the minor and under 20 management teams are also having a good look at the various championship games (senior / intermediate/junior) and seeing some potential players for their 2024 panels. The make up of last years minor team was very interesting as many players were sourced from junior and intermediate clubs. As I live away from Roscommon, I do not get to as many club games as some posters. Thanks to the analyser, dave and other posters for keeping us informed.
