We have one saying Salthill wouldn't trouble Castlebar and another saying Salthill would beat them pulling up. Overestimating and underestimating. The likelihood is it'd be a competitive game, but I'd have Salthill as favourites for that, if it happened. There's no getting away from Mayo's poor record in Connacht in recent years. No Connacht title in over a decade and no team even in a final since 2021. That'll change this year, as Castlebar only have to beat the London winners to reach the final. Either way, if it goes to form, the match-up won't happen as Brigid's are the favourites at this stage. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 3154 - 06/11/2026 12:37:43 2699603 Link 0 |

My prediction on Salthill-Knocknacarra to win pulling up would be based on the high/momentum they would have from overcoming Brigids (if that happens) and what you have outlined " can't get away from Mayo's poor record in Connacht" Worth noting Ballina have a big population also with plenty of players with inter county players experience in the ranks and last year they weren't convincing against London opposition before Brigids beat them pulling up. The year before not great against London opposition once more before knocked out by Strandhill. In 2023 Corofin beat them pulling up and 2022 Moycullen had it all too easy against town team Westport. Past Castlebar teams was good and their last team that played in Connacht had won 3 of the 4 previous county titles but what real relevance does a decade ago team have with the current one?
