Over the past few days while laid up(don't ask).
I decided to watch back the 22 and 24 finals.
Patrick Kelly lorded it over Gavin White in 22 and had a great game, a real shame he hasn't really played since. No real complaints, we had very little depth and Kerry were the better team. 24 a different story, Finnerty going off after 10 minutes really cost us but aside from that we had more than enough chances.

26, win Connacht for 5 in a row would be a statement and get 2 or 3 new players would be a huge help like Thompson last year. Maybe Cogger or Fionn McDonagh who looks suited to the new rules. Heard Duane say on the podcast that Comer and Walsh up to with the new rules would be nearly unstoppable, we can only dream. Any way off we go again, good luck to team and management for the year.

Understand that you were misled by a typo in an article date, but, given that you were so smarmy, an apology and/or an acknowledgement that you were WRONG would be appropriate.

O Flaherty looks a good shout, given the weather conditions a lot of hard running will be needed. Hoping some of the new lads can step up, a win early in the league would be great but I won't be getting to worked up whatever the result may be"
Very hard to make sense of Silke positioning alright. Kelly not going well at midfield, and we're struggling in the sector. 0-6 there for Mayo off three avoidable 2pointers, including a free that Lane gave to AOS.

We are getting wiped on kick outs here. We are missing Darcy, Maher and Conroy

Kelly isn't a midfielder, we learnt that much today anyway.

Way too open at the back. It looks like nothing has been learned since last year.

Did well to make a fight of it in the end, but it is not possible for any team to win a game with the level of kick out losses Galway have. The new lads did well and will have learned loads. We did not have a midfielder in the squad today. Mayo are going to be back in contention for Sam again under Andy.

Great game for the neutral in fairness. Was happy with how all the new lads performed, particularly the two mcdonaghs up front. Obviously too early to judge on one game but going on that display I think we may have unearthed new talent for the championship which should be the goal of the league for us this year. Agreed that kelly is not a midfielder, personally I would have him full back. I dont think Molloy or fitzgerald are up to it to be honest if we're talking about winning all irelands. Shane Walsh seems to have wintered well! Also, I hate the new hooter rule, the club games this year were far more exciting without it.

Mayo will be nowhere near Sam.

I wouldn't be judging either team on that. If Clifford got the goal chances Galway got today, Mayo would have conceded 8 goals. Agree on the kick outs, massive issue and to be fair has been costing us over the past couple of years

Fitness not at Mayo's level and that was clear from where I was standing. Glynn was very good on Conroy, Mulhern some nice touches and a few mistakes but only a young lad. Fionn McDonagh caused panic in the Mayo defence and is unselfish. I'll watch it back later but our numbers on our own kick outs can't have been good and we conceded scores from our own kick outs which isn't good. Speedy recovery to Mayo corner back, that happened in front of me and knew he was in bother straight away

Galway very disjointed today. And terrible discipline. Must have handed Mayo about 4 or 5 two point frees. Too much mouthing at the ref.

With the games coming up and 4 of them away from home they will have a right battle to avoid relegation you feel.

Only positive you could say is that they finished very strongly and created 10 good goal chances. But only scored 2 of them.

Mulhern and F McDonagh both very good.

PJ confirms Cooke not available this year.

Very short on midfielders with no Conroy, Maher, D'Arcy and even Tierney can do a job in there. Might have to give McGlinchey a go.

Was an enjoyable game

I still can't believe we have no kickout strategy bar blast it on top of biggest man

Mayo had spare men all over field for their we had zero movement

At least Cooke decision put to bed can move on.

Things could have got messy and felt mayo always has us at arms distance

1-10 from the three debutants was a good return.

We were wide open through middle for goals

Thought Kelly and hernon was an odd midfield combo and both struggled

could do with getting a result next weekend before going to Kerry.

Updates on missing players according to PJ.

Maher and McDaid back training. McDaid should be back in the next couple games.
Conroy still hasn't made a decision.
Cooke working abroad. Not available this year.
Comer not available any time soon. Doesn't sound like he will see any league football anyway.

Is John Daly part of the squad this year?

Imo, Mulherne was dodgy today - for a CF crucial pass intercepted. He also lacks physicality. I was impressed with young McGlinchey when introduced - competitive attitude, composure and good positional awareness, definitely one for the future. Also thought McHugh had a solid game, but he must step up as a scoring option. Walsh needs to work on physical conditioning. O'Flaherty, as with Silke, for all their attributes, are not cousins of forwards. But I think Pj wanted a bit of physicality in that area. It's early days but there definitely were square pegs forced into round holes today.

Playing silke and o flaherty in forward is crazy both finished game as wing back ( there best position) surely there can't be anyone in Galway who thinks silke is a forward and if management don't know that not sure what they looking at also Sean Kelly not a midfielder he a full back line player Hernon not a midfielder either neither of them actually kicked the ball today in 70 mins honestly both are played out of position,, also when we they learn that Gleason can not tske frees he has scored 4/12 at this stage a good few of new lads did well and it's a big positive that we created 5/6 good goal chances need start playing forwards in forwards to have any chance this year it be tough get anything out next 2 away games v Armagh snd Kerry if they pick players in best position it's possible but otherwise it won't happen
