Just because the Irish Examiner said they opted out, doesn't mean they opted out. You need to improve your sources. Mine are fantastic and informed me they were dropped.

I'd agree with you on Heaney - he did give great service although he as anonymous in 2 all ireland finals.

Listen to PJs interview with Tommy Rooney yesterday on OTB and you can hear it from horses mouth rather than listening to your sources. He said that he spoke with Johnny and Tomo..in heaneys case Joyce said heaney felt he couldn't give them commitment but that the door is open for either of them on month or two time. On Tomo he said he has played very little football for club or county with hamstring issues . Would say with heaney he was probably not happy with the game time he got last year and that wasn't willing to slog it out for another year with limited game time which is understandable at his age and years he's put in.

Galway should be one of the favourites to win the league realistically as we presumably have nearly all our first choice players available? Thompson gone obviously and Maher missing for the first few games and possibly Darcy too. But we would still have a stronger hand to pick from for the league than most of the other Div 1 sides. Dublin will be experimenting a bit and Kerry will ease themselves back in. Mayo will be going out to win the league also I'd imagine.

Heaney was a good servant and always gave his all and seemed a good man to have around but I understand his & PJs decision if we had a full deck to choose from he would struggle to make 26 never mind first 15 and his mins last yr were very limited. Right decision for Tomo to be dropped needs a good club campaign and play regularly with SK. He has never lived up to his expectations and was very over hyped by us. Undoubtedly he had his injury issues but hoping he has a good league and champo with SK and puts in a regular imjury free campaign. Thompson a massive blow hoping the magic is worked for him to come back for champo similar to what Hernon did a few yrs ago but Berkeley is not exactly the nearest. Not sure what story is with Cooke and this time every year we seem to have the same question about him & I say PJs head is wrecked from dealing with it every year. Any other confirmed absentees?

No we don't want the league title ye can have that .

That's 1 bookie out of about 10 Clare, an almost certainly due to Andy overhyped. You can get Mayo at 20/1 elsewhere which is their place, if you understand what odds mean. Looks at the odds to win Connacht for example, which even allowing for a slightly easier draw for Galway, should tell you where things stand currently.

I was surprised by our odds . But Galways odds on there is pretty spot on to be fair to paddy power !

I spelt out where Galway were short on being all Ireland contenders.
You insist that Comer and Walsh are still forces, but in a team thats 3-5 best in the country.

So you basically agree, Galway days as serious contenders relying on Comer and Walsh are over.

Here's what you said..." a bench of Conroy, Walsh, Molloy and Comer wont worry any tired defenders" and "a long range 2 point kicker needed (now Walsh and Conroy aren't starters)".

So you're saying Walsh isnt a starter and wouldn't worry any tired defenders coming off the bench?

There's not a sane mayo fan in the county that wouldn't take Walsh this year over any Mayo forward. Ryan O'D is coming off an absolute nightmare season where he averaged a point from play a game in the All Ireland stages, and threw in countless missed frees. Even in Walsh's supposed "bad" games last year like Meath and Derry, he still scored 3 from play, nevermind the total's he was putting up in his standout games.

The rest of the Mayo forwards aren't worth talking about at this point. You say Walsh won't worry any defenders. He alone will occupy far more of opposing managers minds and gameplans than any other forward in Connacht will by a distance, even now as he's getting older. Ben O'Carroll probably next providing Comer's not fit

Walsh suffers to much with injury he is not a starter . Ryan O'Donoghue is a much better forward then Walsh . There is no way Walsh would replace Ryan O'Donoghue.

It was a nughtmare season for the whole Mayo panel in 25 not just Ryan O'Donoghue hence the new management for us. Your wearing your marooned tinted glasses as usual . Ye will probably win connacht as we are rebuilding but Walsh is reclining .

They were always short as was proven but think the consensus is they've gone from potential outsiders to back well down the pack.
