Our clubs would stand up for their senior players if problems and poor treatment is being reported back. Clubs are the greatest thing about the GAA , we always back our own PJs belief in his ability as a manager is ridiculous. A legend running a team into the ground. As a player he'd have been the man to lead the players vote against a manager of his standards galwayfball (Galway) - Posts: 1678 - 15/10/2021 16:26:35 2385771 Link 0 |
I see Johnny Duane has announced his retirement. Great servant. Is this the start of it?

I expect so. There could be others following. Fair play to Duane for his 10 years of service to Galway, a huge commitment. He had been getting more game time and is only just turned 30 I think. Pity to see him go.

No proposal B. Let's move on from that. Mayonman (Galway) - Posts: 1824 - 23/10/2021 13:27:26 2386935 Link 0 |
Good to see Mountbellew Moylough win the county final, against familiar foes Corofin. They ended a 35 year wait for the county crown. And won by 6 points. Ex county footballer Val Daly was the manager. Just watched it on TG4 and it was a bit confusing to see both teams in a part yellow jersey. galwayford (Galway) - Posts: 2513 - 15/11/2021 16:48:34 2389555 Link 1 |
We play Mayo in Connacht Quarter Final 2022. Mayonman (Galway) - Posts: 1824 - 27/11/2021 18:17:38 2390975 Link 2 |
Your dead right because mayo will give us a right pasting and we would hardly any other excuse for a right good drink! Championship over before it has started. handpassking (Galway) - Posts: 429 - 27/11/2021 20:56:54 2390996 Link 0 |
Wouldn't surprise me one bit if we beat them. Saying that we could then lose to Rossies! I don't rate Mayo as world beaters at all. I think they did really well last year and got more out of themselves than the sum of their parts and with a bit more composure could have won Sam. They are a credit to themselves but also demonstrated what a bit of diligence, organising and application can achieve. And I think Galway were the exact opposite. All the raw ingredients. It is not rocket science to fix it. Can PJ fix it?? Signs are he cannot but I'm hoping that Cian O'Neill will bring that organisation etc that we are missing. Before I get the head taken off me I accept I am an eternal optimist when it comes to Galway football and I did say "hoping"! Mayonman (Galway) - Posts: 1824 - 27/11/2021 21:23:29 2391003 Link 0 |
We won't be pasting anyone. It's a draw neither county would have wanted. A long trek through the back door awaits the losers of this game.

Either way I can't see the back door system been implemented. I will be a straight forward knockout again. Not until Covid is mastered. handpassking (Galway) - Posts: 429 - 28/11/2021 16:22:24 2391043 Link 0 |
I'd think it could be a short championship season , Mayo match in mid April a fair chance that Galway be finished by mid May thar would be giving them 1 win in qualifiers , I think they should aim to play club championship in July as it is there only be 4 teams left in championship by last week in June anyway ,, I'd say proposal B would definitely have suited Galway even though they voted against it ,,,, Kickitout (Galway) - Posts: 823 - 28/11/2021 16:36:37 2391045 Link 1 |
For now, it's part of the plan. No point really speculating any further, as we don't know what the situation will be in 6 months' time. On the football, there's always hope, but as things currently stand I can't see us beating Mayo. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2018 - 28/11/2021 19:08:29 2391054 Link 0 |
I see a certain Mayo GAA officer complaining about Dublin and calls for the introduction of VAR. The chap has a short memory, if VAR was used for the Galway Mayo game O'Hora would have walked in July. ahsure. (Galway) - Posts: 1566 - 01/12/2021 08:29:05 2391262 Link 2 |
Embarrassing statement from the secretary who is hoping to get the chairman's job. He states "will we ever learn in this county?" And then goes on a rant about VAR, Mayo fans and Dublin arrogance…the only arrogance is from him.

I see a lot of people have us written off for the year already. Recent history hasn't helped but Padraic Joyce has a huge chance with this team to redeem his and their reputations. We're capable of so much more with this squad. Cian O'Neill will have to be respected and given his voice by PJ. That's what he's here for. And PJ's man management will have to improve vastly. Rightly or wrongly, it's not the 90s and player management and communications are different now. I'm sure he knows this. Being 'thick' (I don't mean IQ wise) for the sake of it isn't the way to garner buy in and respect with younger lads now. They need a far more scientific, stats driven, expertise driven approach. We need to adapt to that in the Galway football setup. This isn't that hard to do. If PJ and CON can man manage them properly and get those lads busting a gut for them, there's real potential for surprises. togoutlads (Galway) - Posts: 894 - 02/12/2021 19:29:34 2391490 Link 1 |
I agree there is potential in this team. I would like to see a bit more PR - interview with PJ as to how plans are progressing, set up etc. Alot of negative rumours that need to be put to bed or addressed. Roll on 2022 Nogoal (Galway) - Posts: 62 - 03/12/2021 11:20:33 2391524 Link 2 |
Agreed. There should be regular scheduled media updates. Would be great if the panel, extended panel etc was readily available. Moving on from just my own curiosity about the make up of the panel, they could have pen pics on the website. Kids love that stuff, it drives support from an early age and also will help hugely with generating funds on the commercial side of things. I have no doubt there is some fine work being done in the background however I do wonder about the coordination of it all. I am also very skeptical about our commercial department. The range of Galway gear available is poor enough (trying to get kids training shorts and they are always out of stock...... only option is the white shorts .....which aren't really an option!!) and it is very pricey. At the cost you would think the Galway CB are getting a good rebate (which would be fair enough) but I wonder. Mayonman (Galway) - Posts: 1824 - 06/12/2021 12:42:29 2391841 Link 0 |
That would imply they have a viable plan worth talking about.

Lads I've heard of 2/3 very very prominent members of the team will not be committing to the cause for 2022, all lads are in their 20s so nothing to do with retirement, anyone else hear the same? gaillimhboy (Galway) - Posts: 336 - 09/12/2021 12:27:55 2392182 Link 0 |
