Replying To tommy k:  "Yes I agree with that - it looks like Galway will be very flat on Saturday and drop the heads when being ran at by Lehane and co. Galway hurlers don't like playing on Saturdays and in Thurles in particular."
That's what you wrote before the game Tommy, along with a few others who were certain that Galway were going to lose - you were wrong on all counts, why don't you just admit it!

Yes indeed, where is that Tommy K now? And what does he know about hurling anyway. At least, baire knows something about club hurling in Galway; nothing about inter-county stuff, though. Their likes coming on here contradicting yourself, pool and pope; good Galway hurling people, hopefully will stop now.

Just came on here to say congrats to Galway on beating Cork and wishing ye the best vs. Limerick, but saw your msg and had to back you up. Hope it'll be a fine game. In 1975, 1979, 2005 and even 1987 Galway were huge underdogs in the semi-final, but still prevailed. There is hope."
Highly unlikely that Galway were a huge underdog for the 1987 semi. 1985 yes. 1987 no, unless there was 'silly money' on a Tipp side that was making it's first trip to Croke Park since the advent of coloured TV.

Galway were favourites for that game in 1987

I stood by Galway and didn't give up on them,
Tommy was worried about the Saturday playing in Thurles hoo-doo!

If we're a kid in the 80's or 90's and don't know what it's like to be lined up with a load of other kids squashed in front of a fence at the bottom of a terrace and be delighted to be there, then you didn't grow up a GAA supporter.

Kids are fine in a modern terrace."
I stood at the Railway end with my under-10 teammates for the 1980 hurling final. It was exhilarating and we roared our heads off for the entire game, even though we could not actually see very much of the action.

You might be confusing '87 with '85. In 1985 we shocked Cork in monsoon conditions in a game where greats like Joe Cooney, Tony Keady, Pete Finnerty, Gerry Mc and Hopper McGrath first came to prominence on the senior stage. By 1987, Galway were serious all-Ireland contenders and were favourites to beat Tipp. Our 1993 semi-final win against Tipp was an upset.

Yes true katser Galway hurlers always make me nervous and in fairness for good reasons over many years where they would often snap defeat from the jaws of victory but as I said that was the worst Galway performance ever where they still won which is hopefully a good omen for the rest of the games left.

I don't think the hurling team in recent times are flaky. This is just a get a name for an early riser and you can stay in bed all day sort of thing. This Galway team under shefflin is hard to beat and was the same under donoghue. Stop listening to the likes of Anthony Daly who is living in the past. This Galway team remember has lost Joe and they are very hard to beat.

You're right about Daly, he's always dismissing Galway and has been for years, got worse when he took over Dublin. If the tables were turned yesterday he would have lambasted Galway, whilst with Cork it was an off day! After the Leinster final he wrote "you can never trust Galway " - he'd never say such a thing about a Munster team. Tommy Walsh on the other hand gave a fair and objective assessment of the Leinster final, said it may have been a different result if Galway had executed some of their goal chances.

I truly enjoy watching this Galway team, intrigued to see how far they go. But their game is nice on the eye.

Yes its a Clare jealousy thing with the neighbour's Galway hurlers and footballers relative success to their paltry total of AI's. You can't knock that bad-mind out of them I'm afraid and they get even worse when they win a few matches like this year.

Yes when Galway win they were "lucky" and the other team had an "off-day". When Galway lose "you can never trust them and they are over-rated". I have heard all that drivel down through the years rom many commentators. I think it comes from being outsiders of the provincial system and not "nice but weak" outsiders like Antrim that everyone loves as they never win anything too important! Leinster won't allow Galway minors compete in the Leinster championship as some counties think they will dominate that competition. Never a level playing field as far as Galway are concerned.

Absolutely delighted, why wouldnt I be. I thought we would beat ourselves, turned out it was Cork who put on those shoes Saturday morning. What i liked on Saturday was when Cork got going, we would hit them for 2 if not 3 scores to set them back, then theyd come again etc.

Frustrating we cant get decent ball in, am i fair in saying we just lump it and hope something comes from it. We have players that can win this ball, but not for 70 minutes, and not against Limerick.

Haven't actually performed well for a full 70 minutes all year. The first half v Cork was painful. Lads touch a mile off, players falling into each other or else literally falling over themselves and hitting the deck. If Cork had any level of efficiency in front of goal then we would have been absolutely tonked. There is zero to suggest Galway will keep it pucked out to Limerick. IF we keep it below 10 it will be an achievement.

Conor Cooney has to go I'm afraid as he is now living off past glories from about 5 years ago along with Cianan Fahy who is just not a natural forward although he is a game lad. Perhaps somewhere in the backs may suit him better. We will need all our best players in their best positions to compete with Limerick. There is definitely a clear lack of pace throughout the team and I can't see that getting better anytime soon (strange as pace was always one of Galway's strengths even during the barren days of the 90's etc.) so work-rate and intensity has to be given top priority from here on in.

We aren't exactly overflowing with options to replace them. It's easy enough to say get rid of a lad, but the player replacing him has to be an improvement. I've repeated this a few times, but we lack squad depth. This will take time to develop.
Conor Cooney has had more off-days than good days in a Galway jersey over the past few years unfortunately. However, I still think he's one of our 6 best forwards.
Fahy is there to add physicality to the forward line. Moving him to the backs doesn't make sense at all. Which back would you replace with him?
He's certainly droppable, but there aren't any standout replacements.
I'm hopeful we'll put it up to Limerick and stay in the game as long as possible. We hung in there in 2020, with some exceptional free-taking and sideline cuts playing a big part, but never really looked like winning.
I still feel there could be a big performance in the team and hope we see this in the semi final.

We lack squad depth. not disagreeing with you but after so many underage titles, and supposedly one of the best club championships in Ireland, how can that phrase be used!!

Re Cianan Fahy, GMac has not been exactly shooting the lights out in this year's championship or for the last number of years (a bit like Conor Cooney) and Fahy was very good for GMIT in the centre-back position during their Fitzgibbon campaign. I am not saying to start him there but he should be good enough as a sub at least. Yes the squad lack depth but I suppose we now have to make do with what is there at the moment. What did John Fleming do to get dropped off the match day squad as he is certainly a better forward option than Jack Hastings who I feel is average at best from what I have seen?

Yes, I meant 1985. That semi-final and final typify Galway. One day they can slay the biggest dragon, and the next day be beaten by a pussy cat.

Anyway, as the semi-final isn't on a Saturday, Galway's chances of winning must have greatly improved already (going by the logic of a certain 'expert' on here).
