Replying To tommy k:  "I think the personal loss of his brother that Henry experienced earlier this year plus the now infamous "handshakes" as they have been called hasn't helped Galway hurlers one bit. Also Henry refers to "Galway" rather than "we" when he speaks to the media and his shaking hands with all the KK hurlers after the Leinster final means he has his mind on the KK job when it becomes available more than the Galway job currently. All that points to only one outcome - a Cork win this weekend."
At the end of the day you won't get a prouder Kilkenny man than Shefflin.

I never suggested he wasn't a proud KK man but as he has given a commitment to Galway senior hurlers for the next 2 years he should try to focus on that solely rather than looking over his shoulder at the current KK manager / team albeit having to deal with personal loss at the same time.

Nearly all of those handshakes were instigated by the KK players, who approached Shefflin. What did you expect Henry to do? Ignore them? Tell them to F off?

"...means he has his mind on the KK job when it becomes available more than the Galway job currently".

So with an All Ireland quarter final coming up, the manager of Galway is thinking about the possibility of a future job, not the job at hand? Do many other people in Galway, besides yourself, believe in this BS?

Cork might win this weekend but none of what you refer to above will have had anything to do with it.

What would 'handshakes' of any variety have to do with an actual game this weekend?

He probably shook hands with the KK players because he didn't want to go into the dressing room, understandable.

If Cork beat us it will likely be because they are better on the day, and handshakes and 'media references' will have no impact either way.

There was never so much as a hint of a doubt that the Henrys ultimate ambition is to land the kilkenny job.

If Henry's 'ultimate ambition' is to land the Kilkenny job, surely winning games with Galway is the best way to go about to achieving it?

Its depressing to read this rubbish.
Henry's only focus is the next Galway game.
Cut the bugrudgery.

I've never said Henry isn't focused on galway, there's no begrudgery, and you didn't deny what I said.

Henry has had a tough year and he has dealt with extremely difficult matters in a dignified way. I agree with you re the handshakes with KK players. If Cody had not rejected him so publicly in Pearse Stadium there would have been no need for handshakes in Croke Park, it's only natural that there would be huge respect and admiration on both sides.

Well of course it is.
And why did you put ultimate ambition in quotation marks?

i said from the start galway bringing in shefflin was a bad move because this was going to turn into a media circus . shefflin was one greatest players of all time and this is a distraction for the players.....all the media want is the likes of shefflin managing a team and something to sell newspapers. galway would have been better off going bk to michael o donoghue and making sure they got him no matter what conditions he wanted . the carry on over cody/shefflin has to be a distraction for the galway players.

Hard to see us beating Cork this weekend, hopefully I'm wrong.
Henry has obviously brought massive workrate into the team, couldn't fault that in croker a few weeks ago but it's been the same all year. There hasn't been a game where we have "clicked" from a hurling point of view. We are not bad defensively but there is no real cohesion to our attacking play, and that's on 1-15, not just the forwards.

For the weekend I'd imagine Davy Burke and Glennon will come into midfield for Coen and Fahy. Hoping for some form of a kick from the team, but still think Cork will have too much for us when they run at us

Wow I can't get over the attitude of some posters towards Henry..I mentioned before if he can't get best from this group, then there is no hope for anyone..I really don't think he's looking at other jobs down the line especially with what has happened on a personal level this year.,

MoD withdrew for personal reasons.

I like Henry, I'm rooting for him, and there's no doubt in my mind he's doing the very very best he can with galway, but to suggest that he's not looking at the kilkenny job down the line is preposterous.

Good luck to the Galway hurlers this weekend.

For what it's worth, I think you will handy enough.
This Cork side are no great shakes. The young lad at CB looks class but if you get better and quicker ball into the forwards I reckon you will run up a big total.
