What are you talking about? Huge investment went into the Kenny Park surface last year, it's every bit as good as PS. Also, not sure if you've ever been in the PS dressing rooms, but they're hardly state of the art either.

Can Saturday's doubleheader be bought as a package to watch or do you have to buy individually. Find the pricing very dear this year, was once a €20 deal for weekend games now seems to be €15 a game CillTormoir (Galway) - Posts: 580 - 14/10/2025 14:59:46 2639957 Link 1 |
I've played in both, although my playing days are in the rear view mirror now, I'm afraid. Pearse Stadium would be my preference, but I haven't played on the new Kenny Park surface. Pearse Stadium's pitch is excellent. It would always have been a favourite of teammates and other players I spoke to.

No matter how early some people leave, only a small number will fit in that stand. Many more seats for people in Salthill. Like the Germans leaving their towels on the deckchairs, there's only so many to go around.

Every player would want to play semifinals and finals in athenry, I have yet to speak to anyone that would prefer to play in PS , Athenry is the best surface by a mile and generates the best atmosphere for players, PS has better facilities and is better for supporters with toilets seating etc , so it's hard to please everyone I suppose , at some stage wouldn't it be great if someone had the courage to sell PS and combine all ingredients into a decent venue that caters for players and supporters alike

I was showing the posts on this topic last night to my uncle, to get his feeling about it, he concluded that the nearest such arguments he'd ever come across were the talk generated by the merits of the street fair and the mart back in the 60's.He will be in Pearse Stadium on Saturday evening as he knows that he will have a seat but the chances of same in Kenny Park are practically none.He says that you will always have a very vocal element oppose progress just to block change.

That's gas because my uncle says PS is a soulless kip.

Could well be but this has been said many years in the past however I feel his year there wasn't much hype around turlough as has been in previous years. But its hard to write of the town now it seems as though they have the belief that they can beat anyone and know how to grind out results. Looking forward to the two games and don't think there will be much in either of them. Still don't agree with them having it under lights once again the county board not think of the players but whats new.

In what way are they not thinking of players having it under lights ?

Have you ever played the game ? making the adjustment from hurling in natural day light to under lights is challenging for all players - despite possibly training under lights its not a fair comparison. Nothing you do in training can truly replicate Championship match conditions. Games are sometimes decided by split second actions - do you think it fair that a team could possibly bow out due to someone losing sight of the sliotar in the lights . 4 sets of Lights for players to contend with along with 90% chance of Rain and strong wind forecast for Sat . If evening fixtures under lights were the norm for all teams - then my response might be different . Enjoy the games . LostforWords (Galway) - Posts: 8 - 15/10/2025 10:12:03 2640078 Link 1 |
A solution 'of sorts' might be to play the games in Athenry from noon, and broadcast the deferred pictures on big screen closed circuit in Salthill from 5.45 or so. That way, the players can enjoy the pitch and 'soul' of Athenry, while the spectators can sit and use the toilet, while enjoying the spine tingling cinematic experience........."under lights".

How is it? Ask any player if they would rather play under lights or not and nearly all of them will say not. Very easy to lose sight of the ball for a split second with it being caught up in the light and with the pace of the ball that's all you need then to make a mistake. No reason why it can't be played earlier in the day or why it's even in salthill as opposed to athenry.
