Would you give it a rest, they got over the line which is all that matters. If they had played the way you wanted, you cannot say how it would have gone and we could be on here with them losing and saying they should have been more defensive towards the end. Lord, some people are never happy. We don't win many so how I was won doesn't matter.

Mentality my dear Watson said Sherlock Homes.......and people wonder how Galway lose so many All Ireland Finals, well yesterday was dam close to being a prime example of why! Everybody I have spoken too in the aftermath has said the same as me...."Fantastic win but very lucky there wasn't a few minutes more because Cork would have bet them". katser (Galway) - Posts: 2695 - 12/08/2025 12:04:41 2631369 Link 0 |
A bit like PJ in the Galway football squad 2002-2007, especially 'under' Forde. Definitely one of the best footballers in the county (perhaps country), but to some hurlers on ditch at least, he didn't appear to be a very positive influence on the squad in that era. Mercifully, got his appetite back for 2008 with Salmon's appointment, but his legs were older by then, and we'd wasted 6 seasons and two u21 winning squads 'transitioning' by then. Perhaps it's the same scenario with the McGraths? Been there, done that, but are they ready to be a positive influence on a county camogie squad in the here and now? What would they add/deduct from the morale displayed last Sunday? Pope_Benedict (Galway) - Posts: 4365 - 12/08/2025 12:20:12 2631373 Link 0 |
There weren't and they didn't.

Ye were well met, yourself and the Cork óchónian, a sore loser and a sore winner!

Time to eat humble pie. Clarinbridge were excellent and brought us down to earth with a bang. The 2 Niland's and Joshua Ryan were outstanding. Maybe the early lesson that makes us hopefully. We live in hope Black&White26 (Galway) - Posts: 13 - 12/08/2025 14:30:16 2631429 Link 0 |
There is a saying that an ounce of hard work is worth a tonne of talent and thats what those ladies showed on Sunday. Not to say they are not talented but they worked hard as well.If players weren't involved that was their own decision.

They obviously feel club camoige is more important and so be it.They are adults and made their decision. This is about a fantastic group of girls who despite being spoken about as not having a chance by mangers in their own county proved their worth and grit and won an All Ireland despite it all.

Should they not have gone for the jugular and tried to push the lead out to 6, 7, 9 points? After the equalising goal, If cork had nicked it, imagine the criticism Murray would have got on here. Fine margins. richiepmurphy (Kilkenny) - Posts: 27 - 12/08/2025 18:25:22 2631495 Link 2 |
Can someone please explain to me the gripe between Sarsfields Camogie and the County Camogie team "IF" there is one. I keep picking up hints of it but I never heard anything solid. Thanks in advance. Trump2020 (Galway) - Posts: 2629 - 12/08/2025 19:03:17 2631501 Link 0 |
I think you're being a bit too defensive. There are some valid points about the 2nd half performance and how we let Cork almost snatch it despite having an extra player. It doesn't matter a jot now because we won, but you can be certain the players themselves know they didn't perform to the level they wanted in the 2nd half. When a team wins, it doesn't mean everything they did was right and likewise a losing team doesn't get everything wrong, especially in a game that ended up as tight as last Sunday's. The ladies are an absolute credit to Galway and defied the odds to win it out. It's something we're not too used to in Galway so they deserve a massive amount of credit. Likewise the management team, who have done brilliant work with this squad and developed a lot of new talent. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2488 - 12/08/2025 19:28:15 2631509 Link 0 |
That's not a very high octane attack anyway, in terms of 'going for the jugular'. If Donoghue, O'Reilly or Dolan weren't going to score, there wouldn't be too many scores to be got. There's a limit to the amount of 'jugular' you can chase with only 3 major scoreboard threats in the front8. The goal was more of an aberration than the result of tactics imo. After Hickey's departure, Galway just lapsed defensively for that moment, and too many players were asleep in the half backline instead of providing fullbackline cover at that almost critical moment. It was completely untypical of Galway's defensive display all day though, when the defensive cover seemed to be exactly where you'd want it at all times. The only other breach all game probably being the penalty concession. I put that late defensive lapse late on down to Hickey's injury departure, and our failure to take defensive shape immediately after it, but everyone can have their own theories on it of course......including Murray's tactics etc. Pope_Benedict (Galway) - Posts: 4365 - 12/08/2025 19:49:37 2631512 Link 0 |
I agree fine margins. If he'd of gone for it and Cork got 2 or 3 goals he'd of come in for criticism too. His girls seemed to fade a bit, they put in a massive shift, so maybe he was considering that also. Something else he mightve been considering was Corks scoring power all year, a bit like their men. He probably had a think about what Liam Cahill did too. I don't know the lad, so I can't ask him.

100 %. Probably another row in the dressing room.At least Pat Ryan was grand about the loss but the Cork camoige manager was a disgraceful whinger.

Galway had chances to go further ahead but the ref gave Cork some very soft frees in the second half, eg against Rabitte who was fouled 3 or 4 times and an inexplicable one against Donoghue. Refs often try to compensate for the team on 14.

There is NO Senior B next year. There will be 16 teams in Senior, 16 in Intermediate, 16 in Junior A and so on. Team relegated from Senior A this year will be Intermediate next year. 7 teams who don't win Senior B this year will join team relegated from Senior A in Intermediate along with the 8 teams who finish 1st and 2nd in the Intermediate groups this year. Hope that clears it up. John Doe (Galway) - Posts: 244 - 13/08/2025 08:11:30 2631543 Link 1 |
It's not just about scoring threats, it's about numbers up there to win and hold the ball, and also to pressure the ball coming out. We did a brilliant job of that in the first half. This gives oxygen to rest of the team and makes the backs' job easier. By retreating further in the second half it gave Cork a better platform under less pressure. We see it happen so often in sport where a team defending a lead, retreats further inviting more pressure on. I think it's a valid observation, but by no means an absolute criticism. They still worked extremely hard in the second half and got the job done when it mattered. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2488 - 13/08/2025 10:05:45 2631563 Link 1 |
