Heard that also - not sure how fit etc. he is but would be big addition upfront - I would say Roach might be thinking of asking him to hand in the county transfer as well!

What age is he now? We could certainly do with someone with his winning mentality and ability to make the ball stick inside alright.

according to wikipedia 36 but if he looked after himself putting him on the edge of the box would still work

Born September 1985, according to Wikipedia, which makes him 36 now and 37 by the time most of the club football championship will be played later in the year.

Chances of him resuming an inter-county career next year are probably slim....!

He's 35 or 36 same year as Lyng, Banville and Malone I think, doubt he'll be in a purple and gold jersey.

Funny about o gara considering he Dosent live or his new house he is building isn't in any of parishes castlebridge, screen or curracloe. Another one brushed under carpet. Considering the hoops other players need to go through to get a transfer.

Intercounty club transfer - not sure that can equate to transferring within a county. From what I understand from that lads down there, his partner is the sister of a former Shels intercounty player and the house he is living in while in Blackwater parish - the family who used to own it or still do and he rents, are a long time Shels family when they lived in it. Its fair to say that he has links with the club. I doubt if anyone in Blackwater would expect him to ever transfer to them.

No I'm sure not that he wouldn't be expected to play for Blackwater or they would expect him to as his wife is connected to Shels as far as I know but the main point is he is living in Blackwater and building in Ballyvalloo, Blackwater. There is no descrepency. So I'd love to know what address has been used! My point being is that it's clear that he Dosent live in the screen-Castlebridge-Curracloe area so why was it granted! That some players are denied the same request and I don't see why anyone should be treated any differently no matter who they are.

Since they bent the rules here, every player going forward can use this is an example to say why they should be approved.

Just had a look and in fairness its right on the border of both parishes, actually nearer to Curralcoe than Blackwater.

Inter county transfers within the province are governed by the Leinster council and the secretary of the club he wishes to leave along with the county secretary have 10 days to object to the transfer. I think what you are referring to is something very different and within the county. Clearly there is nothing to gain by a club in Dublin trying to keep a player who is no longer living there so I would say its a rarity that they object to an inter county club transfer. The reasons for player transferring within the county can be very different. So I don't think anyone bent any rules in this one. I also read in the paper his kids are already playing with the club.

With all due respect, anyone alleging that rules were bent or broken with this transfer doesn't actually know what the rules are.

Inter-county transfers allow a player to join any club in his new county that he can show an "other relevant connection" with, if he doesn't actually live in that club's catchment area. And as already pointed out, O'Gara has a valid "other relevant connection" to Shelmaliers, through his wife.

Somebody could even transfer into Wexford, live in Fethard, and legally play for Castletown, if they can show an "other relevant connection" to the Castletown area.

Anyway, as is often the case around here, am not saying I agree with the rule.....am just pointing out what the rule actually is.

Ironic that you should mention Castletown, a current inter county player transferred to them a couple of years ago, he had / has no connection to the area, is not living there, yet his transfer was granted. So why should there be any issue with O Gara joining Shels ??

Why does it matter in this day and age. There's plenty of young wexford coaches across the border in Carlow and Wicklow making names for themselves and they don't have to reside in the area.
The players are always the bottom of the ladder in the gaa.
