But they beat the Leinster champions 2010

Remember it well. Meath 1-2 up and Dermot Early gone after 10 mins. An unbelievable goal from James Kavanagh and an all round Trojan performance won us that game. Rightly favourites to beat Down in that semi and very, very harshly the losers.

Replying To brianb:  "In fairness to the officials - I think they have a tough job to do an generally do it well. In close games you'll generally see the losing side will have some grounds for grumbling at a decision seen as badly made or not made. I don't see this as blaming the referee for a loss but more from the bounce of a ball / luck on the day part of every game.

But yeah - these decisions often seemed to go for Dublin back then.

In Ciaran Whelan's own words 15 years later - "As the ball was being thrown up for our Leinster semi-final against Meath, I clashed with Nigel Crawford. In hindsight, it worked out as I got away with it and went on to play well but it could have been so different. If I had been shown an early red, it could have been a disaster."

As for the 2011 incident - watch it again and I still can't see how any referee could give a free.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rXa4WDUiTs

The Dubs needed the slice of luck back then - they certainly don't need it now."
Regarding the Leinster final decision, the ref was just trying to cover his back there, it was neither a goal nor a penalty, and even if it was it may have been missed.

No surprise but the "national media" has been incredibly disrespectful to Kildare this week.

Everything from Dublin punishing us to them deciding just what they want to do to us. I even heard a less than knowledgeable sports presenter saying Kildare were undeserving of their spot and how Meath should be given another rattle.

Modern players are beyond the "pinning the headlines on the dressing room door" crap but they do deserve respect. While the GAA (primarily) and the media (to some extent) are to blame for the current demise of competitive football across the country, the players pulling on the white jerseys are doing their very best to bring entertainment and competitiveness. In return for their efforts they get sneers and snide remarks.

I would love nothing more than if Kildare were to win tomorrow. I'm under no illusions as to the likelihood of that but as long as the lads give of their best, I will stand with them.

Let the media continue to ride the Croke Park / Dublin gravy train while it lasts. They're fitting bed fellows.

Beat Laois and Meath in the league and beat Offaly and Westmeath in the championship.

4 from 4 against Leinster teams this year so don't see how anyone could argue that. We mightn't put it up to Dublin for the full 70+ minutes but we definitely deserve our chance on merit.

First, "the current demise of competitive football across the country" isn't current. The senior Gaelic football championship has been uncompetitive, bar in Ulster and for 2-3 other games per year, since the very first championship in 1887. I'm blue in the face from
pointing that out. I suppose it's better than being lily-white in the face from it, though.

Second, please explain how the media (to some extent) is to blame for this erstwhile demise of yours?

Dessie is a Westmeath man, the media will ride whatever train is at the station. They used to be the same with Kerry when they were dominant!

Agree with a lot that you say but as a Dub myself your last comment is just what you are complaining about, disrespect.

Hon the Lilies, We have some players who have been performing at a very high consistent level this year. In Mark 'The Don' Donnellan, and Mick OGrady, we have one of the best keepers and one of the best full backs in the country, Neil Flynn is a top class free taker and will convert anything from 60m, Our defence has improved a lot as has our bench, players like Paddy Brophy and Niall Kelly not getting a look in, with the younger generation of Jimmy Hyland, brian mcloughlin, daragh kirwan and shane o Sullivan all ahead of them in the pecking order, with the
X factors of Dan Flynn and Ben McCormack we have the potential to do real damage up front, However, If kilkenny, o'Callaghan, Small, Fenton Scully, and Costello perform then I can see only one result......unless The Don can shut them out

Kildare have had a good season and some of the comments mentioned could definitely be construed as disrespectful, especially if you're particularly sensitive and perhaps looking to be outraged.

But that's got nothing to do with the Dublin players or posters on this site.

I think Kildare have it in them to perform against a Dublin side missing quite a bit of edge at the minute. I'm aware Kildare are missing key players too which is very unfortunate, because Dublin are currently there to be got at. I hope Kildare find the type of performance you've mentioned above.

The media are there to sell a story as you know well. They'll peddle whatever they can..

In this case it's the "Dublin looking to prove a point and send a statement" angle = zzzzzz

They usually peddle that particular plot line a few times across the Championship and attach it to various counties in similar circumstances.

Enjoy the game today and tbh I very rarely read the opinions of others with a vested interest to first and foremost sell newspapers or make a bit of noise for him/her self.. it's to be taken with a pinch of salt. They are not really interested in a well rounded and balanced opinion. It's about big bold headers

Dublin are going for 11 in a row and a 7th AI in a row.. they look to be somewhat faltering.

That brings with it a certain media attachment as opposed to Kildares current standing.

It's only natural that you'll come out worse in the build up to a game from some comments in the media looking for the easy story and not particularly caring about much else.

Best of luck, very much looking forward to walking back into Croke Park today and seeing both sides hopefully performing well.

I would have given Kildare more of a chance if they had a full pick to choose from but missing 2 or 3 of their best players? If they get within 6 and ask some questions I would be happy from a Mayo point of view. The gap is certainly closing between Dubljn and the next 3 or 4.

I haven't had a look at Dublin since the league, I hope Kildare give them a game and I wish them well, I want to see where the Dubs are at, can't see it being as intense and exciting as the Ulster final but you never know.
Dublin by 7 or 8 points.

Offaly's great U20 team gives hope for Leinster football, if they come through, Dublin may have fell right into the pack by then and we might have a Leinster championship again. As for 2021 whilst the All Ireland is something different Dublin to win Leinster today by 12 - 15 points.
