Replying To Tirchonaill1:  "I don't know anything about conspiracy theories but man'kind' is nuts, the planets animal and plant life would be better of without us.
What kind of stupid nutcases think that messing with and creating deadly new types of viruses is a good idea?"
Unfortunately the type of people who end up running countries.

Replying To Canuck:  "Firstly I will clarify that I personally know little about how viruses originate. I treat conspiracy theories with scepticism. However it made me sit up and listen when recently listening to an interview with a former leader of the CDC. He cast series doubts about the origination of covid 19 in the Huwan food market. What I got from it was he was suggesting these type of viruses from animal to human is a one strain. (may not be the proper term) While still a spreader and a problem they would not take on the format of this one that seems like it is trained in the lab. He went on to say that China, Russia, the U.S.A. and many others are working on the development of these virus. Isn't it sad the world we live in work on how to kill people? I bet it is to kill the ordinary people not the leaders.
He was suggesting that the virus may have been carried out accidentally from one of these labs."
It wouldn't surprise me if there was something sinister behind it. Schools are teaching our young children that the nature which surrounds them is being destroyed by the human race. The majority of the same kids with not one iota about the science behind it. These kids grow up to be adults, many of whom end up as geniuses in other areas. A small percentage of these geniuses will also be nutcases

I don't buy into conspiracy theories. But it is one hell of a thing and a coincidence that a lab in wuhan (where everyone now agree this virus originated in,) actually test and make coronavirus in test tubes.
If I was to nail my colours to a mast, I'd say with some personal certainty that this was a accidental escape of one of these viruses. That's my opinion just by joining the dots.

Replying To Marlon_JD:  "To be fair, this should never have been considered a "conspiracy theory" in the first place. Its a hypothesis, not a theory.
And a reasonable one, given the research facilities in it place of origin, and how the virus has behaved.

Also, the former CDC director was clear to state that he wasn't saying this was an intentional act, and not necessarily a result of research that was intended to create any kind of weapon.
This is likely an inevitable consequence of 'gain-of-function' research, which can essentially super-charges a virus for research purposes. As far as I know, it can be used for benevolent reasons, such as vaccine research/development. But it may also end up creating a bigger problem than its trying to solve if it leaks, as is what could have happened here. That's why there was a ban on this type of research, in the US at least, until 2016.

This virus has crippled the entire world. Honest discussion on its origins are necessary, and this has not been allowed to happen in the last year. If you want to solve the problem, you need to know exactly what created it, and how. Determining its origin doesn't have to mean ascribing blame, just identifying research that may be too dangerous to be worthwhile."
A reasonable post. What concerns me is that due to the proliferation of disinformation on the Internet, whole groups of people (I'd say the majority of the population) are willing to believe anything that fits in with their own prejudices and biases. Never has it been more easy to systematically manipulate news and play on people's fears. The algorithms and silo thinking can take people down into very deep rabbit holes. Just look at the situation in the US where the Qanon conspiracy theory moved into the mainstream and is firmly believed by a worryingly high percentage of people, probably running into several millions. A senator was elected to Congress on the back of it and it contributed very much to the mindset of those who stormed the Capitol. Sadly in the dystopian direction we are going at the moment, getting to the truth of issues is becoming more and more elusive for us all. Our only protection is to maintain a healthy scepticism in the absence of clear and uncontrovertible evidence underpinning the theory/hypothesis and even then it is worth remembering at the back of one's mind that even evidence can be concocted!

Yes, I was totally on board up until 6 months ago, I tend to agree with you. The world is fucked.

Fully agree with most of your post but I'd include blm, antifa, MeToo, etc. I've pretty much given up on any "news" media as they're all useless and owned. It's a lot of the reason I miss hurling and football so much as there's such little else of substance on. At least when a good match is on I tend to forget all the dumb nonsense out there. Bring on the matches please. (Safely of course).

Seeing lots of kickabouts in a local park. Maybe I should call the Indo, they seem to be very interested in them.

Way too much ink getting used on this one. Also seeking out so called people of of influence to add weight one way or the other. People need to cop on and find some really important things going on in the world.

I am sure there will be a few twists on the way and this has been a long thread but hopefully we are nearing the end!

133 million cases, and 3 million deaths from COVID-19 in the world over the last year. Is that not "really important"?

I used to believe ireland had a very good education system, clearly something has gone badly wrong.

Hopefully as soon as possible. I could use a few good hurling matches to bring back my sanity. Plus I want to see how Cavan and Tipp will do in the football after their great year last year.

Yeah, seen a few full adult soccer games too, kick abouts, puck arounds. Ireland has always had a problem with people unable to mind their own business.

Was in Florida recently. No masks, no restrictions and people going about daily business. Pints in pubs! Breath of fresh air... of course am lucky as I live in USA and I can drive down there. Deaths in Ireland are way less than USA, yet the country has been plunged into a Dark place!Lucky there isn't a war on as Irish would surrender in first day! Country is run by a crowd of old grannies. The All Ireland is the only solace left to the population and yet the coaches of Dublin, Cork and Monaghan suspended for secret training sessions. I give up!

Nonsense.
Id rather have short term restrictions and less deaths than having no restrictions and more needless deaths.
Id much rather be in the dark place that is Ireland with deaths much less than the US

Yes and I doubt if some or any of the coaches ordered these sessions. Dessie Farrell is taking one for the team. I doubt that this photographer was ever up at 7:00 a.m. in his life before. There must be many other meaningful photos he could go and do. Probably a set up to get him there. Yes there are regulations and all in all there should be compliance but how about a bit of common sense when you see some guys kicking around a ball in a big field. Mind your own business or join them. How about applying the same rules to GAA players as others. Stop the b.s. of telling us it is fine for other team sports to train and play games but these seven players are spreading covid. Treating Irish people like they are stupid.
With regards Dublin getting an advantage over other teams by these guys doing a kick about. In reality if they did not get together until match day they would beat most of the other teams. Stop the whinning and go out and beat them on the field of play.

That's a good one Rockies.. I would much prefer to be here in Ireland run by your son called grannies than in a USA where currently they are trying to revert to old Jim Crow laws in one state and can't get over Trump in most of the rest of it... delighted to be here and to be honest i feel safe here with the mask on too.
