I seen it mentioned elsewhere but Joe Brolly has spent all year screaming about the sky deal and looking out for 'true gaels' and yet sees no problem in throwing a referee under the bus to defend his new favourite team - what a great act by a true gael. After Sunday im glad to have Sky and hopefully RTE'S viewing figures will go down for the replay as more switch over to hear real analysis. When will the likes of RTE learn that the public is tuning in to hear actual analysis not biased pundits who want to turn every match into an act of self promotion. Always liked Brolly but Sunday was a farce, straight away trying to bring the referee down. He is a very bad advertisement for the biggest day of the football year. I've never seen such obvious fouls in my life, and all by Cooper who is a great player but plays on the edge. PointRoad (Louth) - Posts: 111 - 03/09/2019 07:28:43 2232188 Link 2 |
He gave osullivan the same chance as Cooper... Tick, yellow, yellow. That was only osullivans second foul...get over it

The problem isn't that they're from competing counties it's that they come on RTE with agendas, namely self promotion, and RTE seem to encourage it. The list of ex players in the professional world commenting on their former teams is endless. Graeme Souness, Gary Neville, Roy Keane, Brian O'Driscoll, Alan Quinlan... You see where I'm going. Peter Canavan and Kieran Donaghy seem to able to pull off some level of impartiality on Sky. I'm sure that would change if they were to hop into the RTE studio. No they shouldnt. How many channels and sports always have neutral pundits covering games? They dont because its not possible/feasible or better for ratings/coverage of games KillingFields (Limerick) - Posts: 3758 - 03/09/2019 19:30:11 2232525 Link 1 |
Up to a point you are right. However when the game is being analyzed by a a former player we expect more. A commentator is a commentator, game presenter who is only repeating what they heard someone else say.

Spot on. Problem isn't with an analyst analysing his home county in a game. Problem or lack of it is with good analysts who can do it and stay neutral.

Joe Brolly rambles on and takes two minutes to make a basic point.

Has hardly been seen on TSG Championship coverage since he bizarrely described the great Colm 'Gooch' Cooper as a two trick pony while praising James O'Donoghue in 2014. Was ridiculed and felt some heat in the following days .. his next article in the Star newspaper was entirely devoted to reproducing positive comments he claimed to have written about Gooch. Think he may have learned since not to engage in loose talk and use lazy labels in studio. In fairness to him it was at a time when pundits competed with each other for the funniest put down of amateur players. Thankfully this habit has almost ceased since Sky began their coverage and the new presenter Joanne would challenge it.

I'm going to watch the replay on sky, definitely. Rte's coverage on Sunday put the tin hat on it for me.

RTE and its producers should have learned from the hurling final - having ex-players from participating counties is unprofessional and unfair. It's obvious that their main agenda is to create controversy and to avoid objective analysis of the game.

Brolly continues to talk through the orifice that he sits on. In fact the three pundits should join the circus. There is a place for clowns but it is not doing analysis on football games. Canuck (Waterford) - Posts: 3059 - 04/09/2019 15:04:19 2232771 Link 1 |
