I think the media are driving this too. They'll call up this former kk player or that former kk player and ask "what did you think of the Hogan red card?", "Ah I thought it was a bit harsh, maybe a yellow would have been enough". Headline in paper, "Kilkenny great (insert name here) slams Hogan red card". Controversy sells and the media know it. ballydalane (Kilkenny) - Posts: 1256 - 24/08/2019 21:29:30 2229043 Link 0 |
Yes that is a fact also. Even though not liking Cody's reaction to the ref and being fair to him. Over the years he has had to deal with so often, reporters asking him loaded questions to make a head line. He learned to be evasive or skillfully turned it into a what do you think question. This time I think he became unhinged (about the ref) because of the extent of the defeat. Players also do not seem to be prepared for those questioners. Pundits should get independent training on how not to damage their image. I know we complain about players and mangers not been honest or evasive but dealing with journalist who have a different agenda demands this. Not because he is from Waterford Derek Mcgrath at least comes across as been honest, will answer the question directly giving his opinion without pulling anyone down.

According to the rules, what should John McG have seen in the semi for his late late & far off the ball strike to the Wexford lads midsection? Honestly as you seem to know. Not trying to stir anything, I'm just curious if it was a red card offense but was given a 2nd yellow instead. Thx

He should have got a straight red and missed the final. Deliberate striking with the stick. Conor Gleeson got one and missed the 2017 final. However I would agree with the poster that said you are pulled over for speeding and tell the cop three cars passed you out going faster before he stopped you. See how that goes for you? The citing of other cases for not enforcing a rule does not stand up. Hogan hit Barrett with intent in the head with his elbow. Red card. If he did not get one we would have people using this one as an excuse when the next player get an illegal hit. Barrett hit Hogan earlier while challenging for the ball. No intent but careless use of his stick. Yellow card.

Canuck the anti Kilkenny thing is eating you alive. Now there are county rivalries and we all have certain counties that get to us more than others! StoreysTash (Wexford) - Posts: 1836 - 30/08/2019 15:23:31 2230731 Link 0 |
For the umpteen time I am not anti Kilkenny or Wexford for that matter. However I have supported Kilkenny going to their matches for years with family, friends and neighbours of mine in Kilkenny. Just because I express an opinion on the rules and defend a referee's decision does not make me anti anybody. I mentioned Conor Gleeson. The referee had to send him off for swinging with his stick. The person I have issue with is the experienced Cork player who gave him the butt end in the guts. The game was over at the time and he should be ashamed to have provoked a 20 year old who may never again get a chance to play in an All-Ireland. That does not make me anti-Cork either. The Wexford player who ran, did gig in front of the lines man and got DeBurca sent off but later stated that Tadgh got caught in his strap. That means he admitted to simulation. My opinion not anti Wexford. Austin Gleeson should have been suspended and I said so at the time. That does not make me anti Waterford. Referees make mistakes but get a lot more right than wrong but pundits from the competing counties lambasting them for applying the rules is down right disgusting. How condescending of brolly when spillane was praising his nephew . His nephew did have a good game he should be allowed to praise him. Brolly is so biased when it comes to dublin and he turns around and simply that spillane is biased. galwayfball (Galway) - Posts: 1704 - 01/09/2019 17:23:32 2231286 Link 3 |

Brolly needs to go. No panelists should be allowed to be on when their own counties are playing then no one can be accused of bias galwayfball (Galway) - Posts: 1704 - 01/09/2019 17:58:57 2231349 Link 1 |
Brolly's wonderful Dubs! Puke football and verbal diarrhea in the same studio, Whelan no better. I agree, there was no objective voice on that panel today. baire (Galway) - Posts: 1849 - 01/09/2019 18:05:44 2231358 Link 1 |
no danger of that happening any time soon with brolly...

Just watched the half time commentary. Brolly rude, biased & inept. Whelan like a petulant child & not wanting to see what was obvious. Joanne did well today. greysoil (Monaghan) - Posts: 965 - 01/09/2019 18:08:54 2231362 Link 1 |
Pat Spillane increasingly exasperated being constantly interrupted by Joe Brolly. Ridiculous situation Thelonesomegoose (Leitrim) - Posts: 204 - 01/09/2019 18:08:57 2231363 Link 1 |
She shouldnt be in the situation where her panelists actually deny video evidence

Unbelievable from Whelan and Brolly. Whelan tried to say Cooper didn't hold Cliffard's arm. Gough was good. Got sending off and penalty decisions right. Brolly completely wrong to attack him. Unprofessional coverage! Brolly saying O'Shea can improve. He had an amazing game. What are these guys looking at.
