The Sunday Game - Awful Coverage

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Brolly can moan all he likes about free to air coverage, but I think Sky have better pundits and coverage in both codes.

No matter who is playing on any particular day, Brolly finds it impossible to mention Donegal or Tyrone. I for one was glad to see Donegal exit the Championship on Saturday just so Brolly might shut up about them for five minutes. Brolly and co in RTÉ are completely dismissive of anyone outside the big 4. They have been for years. I don't mind Dessie as much. He reads the game very well. He does call players by their first name but so what? I think it's of little importance and relevance really.

Replying To PK57:  "It's laughable to see some people defending TSG. I'm not silly enough to suggest that a game like Wexford v Louth deserves some sort of high billing but this is how the game was covered, a 2 minute report, by a reporter who was comically bad, and acted like he had been handed the graveyard shift by being forced to cover the game. Then back in the studio, not even one sentence from either analyst on the game. 5 minutes before that you have Joe Brolly screaming about the weaker counties being disrespected but doesn't see this as a problem. If the show is only about the elite sides then fine but don't have analysts on the show screaming about unfairness then."
Agree with you 100%. I also believe that so called weaker counties have been given a raw deal for far too long now. All too often the also-rans barely get a mention. Don't get me wrong. I have a lot of admiration for the approach that the big 4 take to each of their games. It's time RTE remembered that there are 32 counties in Ireland.

I don't blame people for switching to Sky although my tolerance of one Peter Canavan is really being challenged these days!!

No need for the repeats"
Spot on. Waste of time with little effort!!

I have to say summarising in Dublin vs Tyrone was shocking, a voice that would put an abscess to sleep

He did manage to bring up leitrim this afternoon!
Joanne fairly put the boot down on his sky rant. Its getting harder to listen to her by the week.

Replying To riverboys:  "I felt that Sunday panelists were insulting to Meath, they talked about Mayo before the game, at halftime and after the game and seemed to forget that Meath were also there to play, barely a word was spoken about the royal county, O'Rourke must have been going daft listening to all the talk about Mayo"
Good point. I have noticed that commentary on Meath has been pathetically poor this year. On one occasion (think it was the Carlow game) they forgot to comment on the game completely and went on to the hurling only to go back after the next segment of the programme.

Games against Donegal and Mayo almost no mention of Meath and their progression. At least last night there was some comment on Meath and how the super 8's helped them progress.

I suppose we have seen both sides - ranging from blanket coverage in previous eras to us being also rans now.

It's pure cringe listening to Joanne chirping in at every chance, throwing dirty looks and sighing if she disagrees with a panellist. To think we're going to have to listen to that for next number of years is nauseating. She's a presenter masquerading as a pundit.

Completely the wrong person for the job.

Cantwell is a good presenter. Cooper is much better this year, he is a smart bloke. He cleverly pointed out that the dead rubbers were great for the players to put on the county shirt. Brolly is obnoxious but entertaining, his question about can Monaghan ever win in 35 years was bizarre, Cantwell handled it well. He also said Conor Mc Manus is in a bubble, a bit rich coming from Joe. He will need a bib next Saturday for the drooling lol. Ah the Dubs are the Rolls Royce blah blah blah.

I agree. She's a bit painful alright. But Brolly has gone too long without a real challenge. O Rourke probably has it in him to do this but I don't think he likes upsetting the apple cart. Shame really.

Joanne very obviously shutting brolly down all the time, some might say she's giving him what he deserves but it comes across very bad looking for her

Brolly is always reminding us how he's friendly with some of the Dublin players. How can you have balanced punditry after saying that. The sniping between him and Cantwell is absolutely tiresome. One of them is going to have to go. No need for three pundits there anyway. Two more than enough.

I agree with better pundits. I do like o shea and whelan. Cant stand brolly or spillane and dear God when dessie dolan is on commentary. He just says the same thing over and over again. "comer gives galway a big target man inside " or "galway dont have comer so they are going to struggle with no big target man inside" and he repeats those phrase for the entire game

It obvious there's a lot of animosity there personal spilling over to professional and personally I believe it's time for a complete clear out of personel and format .Too many insecure presenters and panellists trying to hog the limelight to stay relevant... ...New FORMAT PLEASE

I don't agree, I think Brolly needs to be kept on a tight leash.

If anyone needs to go it's him. The amount of interrupting he does, he doesn't care about proper analysis. He's the most out of touch with the modern game.

Complete overreaction by brolly and co.
Tomas and his yerraisim with Brolly nodding along vigorously an an attempted media brainwashing exercise.
Mayo collapsed and ran out of ideas as opposed to Dublin's brilliance.
Hope Dublin win it now,

I disagree, Cantwell is the problem. I don't mind listening to the panalists generally they are right. The droning nordies on Sky have me reaching for the mute button.

But Brolly is a poor pundit. Wants to make every show The Joe Show. I have a mad proposal who should be The Sunday Game presenter. Shane Stapleton from Off the Ball.
