Excellent post Wayne , on a side note should Kerry v Dublin not be on in Killarney on the Sunday where you might get 25-30000 at the match as opposed to Tralee on Saturday night with a circa 12,000 ceiling sold out for past month . People can hardly be surprised that there was such a small crowd in Croke Park last night with the rugby match on 2 hours earlier. It was inevitable. PoolSturgeon (Galway) - Posts: 2011 - 03/02/2019 09:00:17 2161863 Link 2 |
I think the 14,000 was the total days attendance, was it not? 2 games prior to the NFL1 game & many from those games would have gone home. greysoil (Monaghan) - Posts: 965 - 03/02/2019 09:21:14 2161866 Link 2 |

The rugby had a big Influence on the crowd in Limerick. 8,500 was still a very good crowd given the conditions. Limerick is a rugby town and really the hurling should have had a 1930 throw in. bloodyban (Limerick) - Posts: 1710 - 03/02/2019 09:32:47 2161870 Link 2 |
Where will the 25-30,000 fans come from openstand? There will be about 10,000 Kerry fans and at very high water 5,000 dubs, the myth that the dubs travel in big numbers has been well and truly squashed at this stage. Tralee can comfortably hold 16 thousand so that'll be big enough for next weekend. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 03/02/2019 10:05:34 2161878 Link 2 |
Wasn't their 14000 in Killarney last Sunday and Dublin would definetly bring more plus more locals would come out after the Tyrone win ?? Even a few of Kerry's west limerick supporters might go lol . One of the best days out I had was at Tyrone v Kerry in qualifiers in Killarney 6-7 years ago , there was 35,000 at it .didnt think Tralee could hold 16000 , I know quite a few who haven't a ticket for next weekend who would go OpenStand (Limerick) - Posts: 736 - 03/02/2019 11:02:49 2161898 Link 2 |
Austin Stack Park can't "comfortably hold 16,000" so not sure where he got that figure from. Although Saturday two years ago was a great weekend in Tralee which is a fine town for a weekend away.

I think we had a big crowd last week because of the new manager and the promise of seeing some of the young lads and there were a lot of Tyrone fans as well. It's great that you came back to the Tyrone game in 2012 and would there be many from abbeyfeale athea and glin supporting Kerry? I met a lad from tournafulla one time that went to a lot of Kerry games on the supporters bus. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 03/02/2019 12:10:09 2161924 Link 1 |
I don't see why Dublin league games can not be played in Parnell Park? There is an argument for using Croker if the Dubs are home to Kerry or Mayo yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11550 - 03/02/2019 18:01:46 2162092 Link 10 |

Doesn't Parnell only hold 8k since the recent health and safety review of GAA stadia? 14k there on Saturday and that was a real low, probably due to the rugby. 20k is pretty much standard for a Dublin league game. I can see why they wouldn't want to turn away 12k supporters then trying to promote the Dubs and the game. I can imagine what a dreary atmosphere there was on Sat alright though, freezing cold and the game does little to warm the heart. With the upper tiers closed off though Croke Park is a 60k stadium a 20k crowd is a third full which is better than a lot of grounds for league games. Thurles, the Limerick Gaelic grounds and Pairc Ui Caoimh wouldn't break the 20% full mark too often. The Dublin County board did a great job promoting the spring series when it came in initially, double headers, bands playing between games. It was a grand Christmas present. I don't hear much promotion of it these days and that is probably reflected in the attendance too. tomhealycork (Cork) - Posts: 80 - 04/02/2019 10:53:59 2162410 Link 1 |
Absolutely. And it does not matter who Dublin play be it Kerry, Mayo or whoever. Winning becomes routine. Sat night would have that type of crowd whoever Dub would be playing.

Would have been at least double there if Mayo were playing Dublin sat night mate and you know it.
