Tyrone v Meath

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

A defensive plan isn't going to be ready in time for Tyrone game so I think our only option is too attack attack attack and try outscore them, only thing I would stress the breaking ball is crucial too this. Trying to go ultra defensive against Tyrone is pointless, they don't score that much for starters and secondly it could lead too even more confusion. Feck it just have a cut at them, put SOR in on the edge, mix long ball with biggy and Wallace carrying also. If it doesn't work it doesn't work and this disasterous campaign will be over thankfully but I'd rather go downafter going for them and racking up a bit of a score......unfortunately MOD will probably try something crazy and we will lose a low scoring affair by a comfortable 1-12 too 9 or something like that

Eamon Fitz put a defensive plan in place in similar timeframe last year , but that's fitzy we have O'Dowd.
I just don't know, i can't get up for this game, yet im getting excited about O'Byrne cup !!!! I guess that's cause we will see something different a new fresh approach, with passion and pride from sideline,
I just want us to win this game, but even if we do what has gone before cannot be forgotten, we must rectify what has gone on for last 5 years.

it can still be done lads, it's probably the first time our backs are really to the wall since MOD took over, anyone who witnessed the shambles against Cavan in the division 3 on a cold February night in navan 2 years back will remember that some people thought we were heading for division 4 after that game , then i remember what jim McGuiness said after we drew with Donegal in the league , he said we weren't that far away from becoming a really strong team that would challenge , performances against Dublin have told otherwise though , but i'm a true believer that this team is far from finished and i'll stick to that

Its true that Kerry were a little all over the place defensively, and Fitz did sort it out alright..

I was in Limerick in 2008,it still remains the darkest day for me following Meath. We threw a 10 point lead away to Wexford in the championship after playing some excellent football in the first half. But that day in Limerick it was clear that Colm Coyle lost the dressing room too. This Westmeath game was very similar to the Wexford one.Just hope the Tyrone game isn't similar to the Limerick one..

I'll never forget it. I remember one supporter in particular giving the management team a right bollocking while they sat on the bench. Lets hope it doesn't happen again. It is essential Meath make a good start in this match and finish strongly!

Ziggy we cant be, i would like to see mcentee/geraghty/moyles. For me that's the dream team from my pov.
But i just want to see a game plan, apart from the all out attack we copied from dubs in league last year we don't seem to have one.
Look if it took 10 matches getting beat in each one but margins getting closer and a clear plan id applaud management, whoever that may be. I actually don't blame mod, gg and Evans should have got the job, by far the better option, he should not have been thrown to the wolves by those for whatever reason appointed him.

Ziggy, I've forgotten that bit. I left early as well (only time ever). Couldn't believe it when I switched on the radio after going through a few roundabouts to then hear Meath had scored four goals!

That was a dark day alright...21 points down at one stage....legends like Fay getting the run around. The end of an era really, the final players of our greatest days retired after that....but we got to an all Ireland semi final the following year so strange things happen

I think the Wexford game really got to the players, but the fear is,that the Westmeath game could have a similar impact..

Remember the Limerick game well, stayed overnight thought a bit of a celebration would be in order after Wexford game. That was a fairly experienced Meath team so mentally they were strong and able to come back. Would be worried for these young lads after last w/e and the poor show against Wicklow and the hit or miss league campaign. Confidence plays a huge part in performance and they must be at an all time low. No better team than Tyrone to take full advantage.

Has anyone heard how training is going or what the mood in the camp is like?

Nothing much coming from camp at all.
After Sunday there was a lot of anger (mostly at them selves but also management) for what happened .
But since team meeting they have shut up shop. Good or bad sign? I don't know, only time will tell.

We have no mid field lads no legs and no defensive plan in place after 3 years alot of our scores came from w meath giving d ball away , when they stopped that we couldnt win our own ball if we have gillespy and sor back even for a half each we do have players who can score but we have to drop 2 half forwards back infront of the fullback line if we dont conceed a goal we can win this game , mod and his team must b blind if they cant see this , we have been hammered often enough for him to know somethings wrong if mod was incharge of the dubs or kerry with there players hed probably win 4 all irelands but for me the great managers get more out of there players by making ordinary players better .

royaldunne I would be happy with two of those but not the third. Tyrone are not world beaters and I think this could be an interesting game. The best of luck to all involved and lets hope they play for the full 70 minutes this time out

Charlie Redmond has a go at the county structures in the Sunday World today. He lives in Ashbourne,he would know a bit about it.He also said our management team were very slow to react that sunday and seriously questions the teams fitness..
