Tyrone v Meath

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

This match makes or breaks our season. If we beat Tyrone, Dublin hammers us and we go out in a whimper in round 4.

If we win this it's a big win and it sets us up for a run to the quarters. I hope the players realise this.

Look lads Westmeath were so off the pace in the first half that anyone would have looked good against them, we should have went in at half time with a 20 point lead instead of the actual 8 point lead we had. The scary thing was when Westmeath upped the pace we were just so feeble in resisting them, I really think we have nice footballers on that team but they need proper direction from the sideline.

Just read the local paper.I found it bizarre that out of all the factors of what went wrong etc, that there is not one mention about or defensive(or lack of) defensive plan for this team.

Hi Ive been a longtime viewer (longtime everything in fact) here and other fora. The username is a bit of a giveaway- my first All ireland. I just love Meath football, its bigger than me,Red Collier,Sean Boylan, Colm ORourke,& MickoDowd. And I hope its there a long time after Im gone. Ive been privileged to see many many great days and ive witnessed bad ones in Croke Park v the Dubs in the '70s and losing to them again in'95, and in Kiltoom and Limerick and PT vTyrone & the Leinster Final 16 point defeat last year. Last Sundays concession of 3-19 was very bad too but its GONE now. Every player needs to know their job and must have belief in those around him & in how he fits into an overall team structure. The Gavins and McGuinnesses and Fitzmaurices & their Advisors have brought this to a very advanced &scientific level in the last 5 years. We must look forward to more great days ahead for Meath and imo it will include players who were there last Sunday.

Sensible and positive first post Meath 1967.
Lets hope that MOD looks for and gets whatever resources he needs to bring these players on to the next level.

Has anyone any Idea why there is such a delay in announcing the time\venue for this game? Or can anyone shed any light where\When it might be?

having sat down and properly digested Sunday's defeat , i am still far more positive than i was about meath when i walked out Clones back in 2005 after a defeat to Cavan in the qualifiers. i am still under the opinion that we are still going in the right direction even though the last 2 results suggest otherwise. Some of the forward play in the first half was some of the best i have seen in years from a meath team , defensively we need to get it right the next day and if we do we have every chance.

My worry is that we have had the end of last season to look after the defence, have we done that? I think playing players like McEntee and Tobin as corner backs is insane.Playing Keoghan anywhere but corner back makes little sense too.

Cant believe some posters are putting so much faith in our first half performance last Sunday, Westmeath did not show up for first half, it was a no contest. Once they decided to have a go they blew us away, side-line unable to react once again. What is Micko,s infatuation with bringing Joey Wallace on when things are going against us? Has to be one of the most naïve performances from a management team.

Ziggy
I really believe that the confidence of these potentially excellent players is been destroyed by this insistence of playing them out of position again and again

How many more times must we hear: "we have to get it right next time" "We have to learn from our mistakes" etc. etc.

Meath will pulverise Tyrone. Meath won't show any respect. Lads are up for this one.

Hard to see where the scores will come from, no way Tyrone will let us run through them like first half on Sunday. On another note thought Tormey really looked off form throughout entire game last week, even when things were going our way

Ziggy, no disrespect intended, sadly no to the former and a good bit to the latter, including, in no particular order.defence, tactical nous, cuteness& reading of games, strength and stamina, mental stubbornness,& engendering indestructible passionate Belief. There are other more long-term organisational revisions required but best left till after 11th at least.

Ziggy I actually thought McEntee was v. good in the corner so far this year. Looked to be very tight on his man the whole game and put a great block in in the first half.

The only time he looked exposed was out near the end line when martin ran at him and pushed him off way too easy but as Whelan pointed out dalton should have been closing down the end line quicker than he did.

Yeah McEntee did well(ISH)still a far better player out the field. Our back generally had it easy in the first half though.

Ziggy as an Ashbourne man maybe you could shed some light on a potential Corner back, What happened to Séan Curran?

I know he's a natural corner back that's played there his whole career with Ashbourne/Meath Minors/Meath 21's.

Whenever I seen him for Ashbourne I always felt sorry for his marker, he never gave any of them a sniff!

Uncle Fester

He left the panel after Micko promised him a run in the Carlow game last year and despite the scoreline Micko never brought him on,so he left the panel. Not a bad player, but imo he has regressed a little for some reason,no way is he a centre back though.
