' I don't hate any of those little proposals'

Gearoid Hegarty has welcomed the experimental hurling rules that will be road-tested in next month's Fitzgibbon Cup league stage matches.

The changes recommended by the GAA's hurling expert advisory group include prohibiting consecutive handpasses, six steps in possession and two-pointer sideline cuts.

"I'd always be an advocate that you can't necessarily stand still," the Limerick star told RTÉ Radio 1 before taking part in the Amgen Irish Open pro-am tournament in Doonbeg.

"You look at any sport all over the world, the rules are always changing minutely in small different ways. I don't hate any of those little proposals to be totally honest with you.

"I think they all have an argument for coming in, but we'll see.

"I'm never really too concerned about all these different things that they're talking about bringing in and what they're not bringing in. There's a lot more that goes on than just worrying about the rules of the game."
