Austin Gleeson was both relieved and delighted after inspiring Mount Sion to a dramatic Waterford SHC semi-final victory over Roanmore last Sunday.

The former Hurler of the Year showed his star quality by scoring a late equalising point before setting up Adam O’Reagan for the winner. Mount Sion will now go in search of their first county title in 19 years when they face 12-in-a-row chasing Ballygunner in the decider.

“Oh God, look, 12 months ago we lost to Abbeyside. It was our aim to get back here, go again and reach a county final,” Gleeson told TG4.

“Look, Roanmore and Mount Sion have a massive rivalry. You can see that (by) the crowd. There wasn’t a dirty strike in my opinion in the whole game. I can’t believe it - just over the moon.”

He added: “Being honest with it, I was extremely disappointed with my performance last week. I just wanted to prove, being honest to myself, that I still have it. I'm giving everything for that club and I'm going to keep giving everything and that will go to next week as well.

“We need to go harder, being honest. We are fit. The boys have us in great condition. We have heart that we haven’t had in a long time to be honest with you.

“It’s just unbelievable to get back to a county final again.”
