Cavan SFC takes to the road again

With Breffni Park still out of commission, the last round of group games in the 2026 Cavan SFC goes ahead on Sunday at assorted venues around the county.

The county grounds remain unavailable for a second successive weekend due to a fire that started in the stadium’s kitchen on Thursday night of last week.

Holders Kingscourt Stars are the only team with a 100 per cent record going into the fourth round of six group games (all throwing in at 3pm tomorrow) and are safely through to the last eight with a round to spare ahead of Sunday afternoon’s clash with Crosserlough in Cootehill.

With the four sides currently occupying the twilight zone of 7th to 10th place on the table in a strange twist of symmetry, all on two points apiece, and the top eight progressing, the clashes with most at stake on Sunday are Castlerahan v Ramor at Killinkere and Mullahoran v Arva in Lacken – effectively two preliminary quarter-final shootouts.

The losers of these games will exit the race for the Oliver Plunkett Cup, along with bottom two Laragh and Ballyhaise – who are mathematically still in contention ahead of their meeting with fourth-placed Cavan Gaels in Lavey - although a draw or two on Sunday could make things rather complicated.
