Kildare progressed to the Leinster U20 football championship final with a 1-20 to 2-15 win over Meath in Newbridge last night.
Jimmy Lynch starred for the Lilywhites with a personal tally of 1-8 as they booked their place in the eastern province’s decider against Louth.
It was Meath that made the better start at St Conleth’s Park, running up a 0-4 to 0-2 lead before Colin Scanlon struck the game’s first goal a dozen minutes in.
However, the home side got motoring with a Lynch two-pointer shortly after that and they’d eventually move in front through a Liam Kenny point before the scores of Daniel Colbert and Lynch (free) saw them take in a 0-12 to 1-7 lead at the break.
Cormac O’Donoghue bagged the Royals’ second goal seven minutes into the restart, but it’d be cancelled out by a Lynch penalty two minutes later and scores from Ruaidhri Lawlor and Kenny saw Kildare’s lead increased to five.
Two-pointers from John Harkin (free) and Cian Commons kept the visitors right in touch before late scores by Ronan Kelly (free), Colm Moran (2) and Lynch saw Niall Cronin’s side over the line.
