Salthill-Knocknacarra and Moycullen are set to battle it out in the Galway senior football championship final after both sides emerged victorious from their respective semi-finals out west On Saturday evening.
Salthill-Knocknacarra ousted holders Corofin with a 1-17 to 1-15 win at Pearse Stadium where they put together a sensational first-half performance before holding on for the two-point victory.
Daniel O'Flaherty and Rob Finnerty were in exceptional form for the victors during the opening period, with the latter firing in their goal as they went on to lead by 1-14 to 0-4 at half-time.
The second-half saw the defending champions come roaring back as Ian Burke and sub Ciaran Brady helped dwindle down their deficit. Darragh Silke struck a timely goal after that as Corofin made it a two-point game in injury-time when Liam Silke was denied the net by a super save from ‘keeper Donal O’Sullivan.
The earlier game in Salthill saw Moycullen edge a 0-18 to 1-14 victory against Tuam Stars to book their place into a fourth consecutive Frank Fox Cup decider.
Cian Mitchell’s goal was the difference between the sides at half-time (1-7 to 0-7), but the second-half saw last year’s beaten finalists upping it a gear with substitute Peter Cooke very much to the fore for them as they won out by the minimum in the end.
