The Canavan brothers, Darragh and Ruairí, scored  1-10 between them as Errigal Ciarán began their O'Neill Cup defence with a 4-21 to 1-7 dismantling of Ardboe in Dungannon last night.

Despite being without the suspended Peter Harte, last season's All-Ireland club finalists signalled their intent with a hat-trick of first half goals from Joe Oguz, Odhran Robinson and Darragh Canavan to lead by 3-6 to 0-6 at the break.

Ardboe, who also shipped a heavy defeat to the Dunmoyle men in the 2023 semi-final, were given a glimmer of hope when Cormac Devlin netted after the restart. But another major from substitute Shea McDermott sealed a facile win for Errigal who are the first team into the hat for Sunday night's quarter-final draw.
