Karl Gallagher will be back on board with Monaghan in 2026.
The availability of the 23-year-old Emyvale clubman, whose last appearance for the county came against Dublin in the 2023 All-Ireland SFC semi-final, provides manager Gabriel Bannigan with a much-needed boost following the recent retirements of Darren Hughes, Karl O’Connell and Kieran Duffy.
Gallagher’s impending return comes after he was delisted by the Adelaide Crows in September. He became the first player from the Farney County to sign for an AFL club in January 2024 when he joined the Crows as a Category B rookie on a two-year deal. But after making 32 appearances for the club's reserve team, he wasn’t offered a new deal and returned home to Ireland.
