The semi-final pairings for the Cavan senior football championship have been confirmed following Kingscourt Stars’ 2-14 to 1-12 win over Ballyhaise last night (Wednesday).
Having trailed by as many as a dozen points at one stage, goals from Ciaran Dermody and Caoimhin Magee helped the Stars complete the comeback to win out by five points in the end.
Colin Kelly’s side will now meet last year’s runners up Ramor United in the competition’s semi-finals after the Virginia men defeated Mullahoran by 1-11 to 0-11 in Tuesday night’s refixed quarter-final.
Matthew Smith’s 45th minute goal ultimately proved the difference between the sides at Kingspan Breffni where Ramor booked their return to the last four in the Oliver Plunkett Cup race.
The other semi-final sees defending champions Crosserlough up against rivals Gowna, with both games set to be played at Kingspan Breffni on the weekend of September 27/28.
Crosserlough defeated intermediate champions Arva by 2-17 to 0-19 last Friday night while 2023 winners Gowna dominated in the second-half to off Cavan Gaels on a 1-22 to 0-11 scoreline on Saturday.
