Kerry boss Jack O’Connor says Paul Geaney’s goal on the stroke of half-time gave his side "a real boost" in seeing off Armagh in Killarney yesterday.

The Kingdom booked their place in the All-Ireland SFC quarter-finals thanks to a 4-18 to 0-17 win in Killarney, where they doubled their lead right before the break thanks to Geaney’s goal.

Speaking to RTE Radio One after the match, O’Connor said the Dingle man’s score was “massive” for the hosts.

“Yeah, delighted Martin, obviously the goal on the stroke of half-time, which was quite fortuitous,” he said.

“That was a real boost for our boys going in at half-time because we played well in the first-half.

“That goal just gave us a great fill-up because instead of going in three up, we were going in six up. That was massive.”

On the return of marksman Sean O’Shea, who came off the bench in the second-half for his first appearance of the championship, O’Connor added:

“I was very happy with the way we trained last Wednesday night and the previous Wednesday night. I thought it was coming together for us. Training always tells Martin, we felt fellas were coming into form.

“Great to get Seanie back there, getting 15 or 20 minutes. Gavin White, lads like that. So we're nearly there.”
