Ballyboden St Enda’s claimed their third Leinster club senior football championship title thanks to a 2-12 to 1-14 win against at Athy at Croke Park.

Ryan Basquel’s goal in the run up to half-time saw the Dublin champions taking a foothold in this provincial decider before Paddy Dunleavey found the Athy net again in the 44th minute to put 11 points between the sides.

Eamon O'Reilly’s men opened up an early 0-3 to 0-0 lead at headquarters before their Kildare counterparts got motoring and Kevin Feely’s two-pointer from a free would square things up by the 19th minute.

Niall Kelly (free) shot Athy in front for the first time three minutes later and the teams would be level twice more before Basquel got for fed through by Ross McGarry’s brilliant pass and saw his shot trickle to the back of the net.

McGarry added a point to leave the scoreboard reading 1-7 to 0-7 at the break, with Peter Healy, McGarry and Colm Basquel (two-pointer) stretched the ‘Boden lead prior to them landing a second hammer blow via Dunleavey.

It left Athy with a mountain to try and climb in the closing quarter in the capital, and while they’d get a goal back through Ben Purcell in the 54th minute, it’d still be the Ballyboden’s day as Céin D’Arcy rounded off their winning tally which seals a first Seán McCabe Cup success for the club since 2019.
