Oisín McConville has paid tribute to London football manager Michael Maher who led his side to an Allianz League Division 4 victory over Waterford in Ruislip last Sunday, just 24 hours after attending his father’s funeral in Wexford.

Michael Maher Snr was laid to rest in his native Castlebridge last Saturday, after which his son flew back to London to oversee his team’s 3-16 to 2-12 win, which keeps them in the promotion hunt.

"His father was buried on Saturday. He left Wexford at 3am, up to Dublin Airport, flight home and was there for the 1pm throw-in,” the Wicklow boss said of his London counterpart and friend on BBC's GAA Social podcast.

"He just said how much football had given, winning that football game today had given him and the family such a lift. It's amazing,

"I was delighted for him that he got a lot from that. It just shows you what football means."
