St Brendan’s College, Killarney retained the Frewen Cup (Munster Post Primary Schools U17 ‘A’ Championship) yesterday with David Clifford fronting their management team.
‘The Sem’ edged out Clonakilty Community College by 3-7 to 0-15 in Banteer, much to the delight of their high-profile coach, who is a PE teacher at the famous Kerry school and who he also won a Hogan Cup medal with as a student. In what was a repeat of last year’s decider, St Brendan’s prevailed thanks to 2-3 from Darragh Keane and 1-1 from Jack Culloty.
They were pushed all the way by their West Cork opponents who almost won it at the death, only for Riley O’Donovan’s two-point attempt to drop under the crossbar and into the grateful arms of St Brendan’s goalkeeper James Murphy who cleared the danger.
