No because Kildare lost. We will need to qualify through Leinster I think

Was thinking the same as your first line there, been going to games 20 odd years now in both codes and that's probably cracks the top 10 days for me. Leinster final 2019, 2004 and LSF, beating Armagh, Down and the game in Carlow vs Meath in 08, Clare 2014, LSF 2017, beating Kilkenny in Nowlan Park that year too and today. Delighted for players who've been in that panel 5+ years, they've seen some pretty bleak days. OpenStandWall (Wexford) - Posts: 345 - 22/03/2026 18:59:40 2662316 Link 0 |

Unfortuantely not. As kildare are tailteann cup champions they remaind a top 16 side despite relegation today. I am 99% sure the final on saturday decides the actual ranking between down and wexford. If we win the final we get promoted as "champions" which puts us above Down in the rankings. Which would mean then we play sam maguire this year.( depending on provincial final pairings ) Wexican55 (Wexford) - Posts: 13 - 22/03/2026 19:07:15 2662321 Link 0 |

Hard luck lad. Whittaker played the best game of Football Ive seen from a player in a long time. Great 2 footed player with a good head on his shoulders. Not sure what your 23 was thinking when he took on that shot. All he had to do was pass it to another lad in green.

Whittaker was like Jack McCaffrey, absolutely outstanding. But we contained the rest of them quite well, including Luke Loughlin who would be a top bracket scorer. Didn't like them jeering Brooks when he missed a placed-ball in the first half (and having four lads standing in front of him trying to put him off) so was delighted he nailed the two crucial two-pointers at the death. As good a GK as there is around imo. beano (Wexford) - Posts: 1527 - 22/03/2026 19:58:39 2662340 Link 0 |

He is for sure. And his ability to put the earlier misses behind him and focus on the "next ball" marks him out as a top sportsperson in general.

Well done lads admittedly I didn't see us staying in division 3 never mind getting promoted but they have worked hard to tighten up the defence and attacking wise they seem to have improved with constant runners in behind throwing defences. Westmeath were probably the better team but the lads never gave in great for Wexford football to be playing top teams good for gate receipts too, probably more than 1B hurling. No Doubt it will be tough in Division 2 but great for the profile of football coming up against the likes of Tyrone and Dublin. WexMurph (Wexford) - Posts: 342 - 22/03/2026 20:42:03 2662356 Link 0 |

Just looking at stats . Westmeath got their total score from play . We conceded 2 frees in the whole game . Formertownie (Wexford) - Posts: 553 - 23/03/2026 09:14:38 2662419 Link 0 |

giving away just 2 frees in a game must be a record, must be, while there was a great crowd there for a football game i did expect a few more another500/1000, have to say thats my fav. wexford strip ever, it looks so well so modern Stmunnsriver (Wexford) - Posts: 3059 - 23/03/2026 10:12:08 2662444 Link 0 |

Have to say so myself thought the crowd was small although it didnt feel like it when the goal went in. I mainly go to hurling games myself but love to see any Wexford team doing well and the footballers deserve our support. The stand was max 2/3 full and there was probably a couple of 100 on the open side.

Looked up the rules myself, and yes, whoever wins the Div. 3 Final will be ranked higher than the loser in those stakes, since Divisional champions are ranked higher than Divisional beaten finalists. So we could leapfrog Down in the rankings all right. But I'm not sure even that would give us a chance of playing in the Sam Maguire Cup? The Sam Maguire is for the eight provincial finalists and the eight next-best placed teams from the National League. Winning Div. 3 would mean we'd be ranked number 17. My understanding is that even if all eight provincial finalists came from Divs. 1 and 2, the other eight available spots in the Sam Maguire would be taken by the other eight teams from those Divisions. And if one or more teams from Divs. 3 and 4 happened to make provincial finals, then somebody from Div. 2 would lose out. I just don't see how they'd have to go all the way down to 17 in the League rankings to find a team to play in the Sam Maguire. Then again, I could be missing something, and could be wrong. Never really looked before at how this operates, because it never applied to us before. It's great to have to try figure it out at all! Ranked 15 or 16 i d say as offaly relegated from div 2 if we win Saturday. And not sure if tailteann cup winners ranked higher than promoted teams

A really good disciplined performance. We created alot of gial chances, though maybe taking more points earlier mightve been better for the heart at the end. Thats only nit picking though, overall it was an excellent performance on and off the pitch!

Wouldn't it be brilliant to see the likes of a Kerry, Galway or Donegal coming to Wexford Park. Massive test for our lads on Saturday but its great these things are a possibility for us now
