To a certain degree but it works both ways. Are you saying the US has gained nothing from having bases and troops all over Europe and around the world? It's about it power and influence…wake up. It's about projecting American power and influence in the world. If there was nothing to be gained from it, they would not have stayed. Europe fell asleep but seems to be awaking to the f at the need their own defence. Of course you have Micky mouse countries like Ireland who bury our heads in the sand when it comes to defence. That will need to change and appears to be. Ireland has to play its part. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11882 - 21/01/2026 17:11:02 2652365 Link 0 |

That's already in place. Greenlanders have the right to vote for independence whenever they want. The reason they haven't done so is essentially because they're not ready yet. They're not self-sufficient from an economic point of view and they benefit from the very strong social supports available in Denmark. They will likely eventually vote for independence. They seem to be adamant however, that they don't want to become part of the US. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2714 - 21/01/2026 17:45:30 2652371 Link 0 |

At the end of the day we are all relying on the USA for defence in the western world and this country is living off the taxes and employment we enjoy from American multinationals here, don't bite the hand that feed you. What difference is it to us if Greenland is owned by Denmark or the USA? I'll answer that for you, none. Tirchonaill1 (Donegal) - Posts: 3666 - 21/01/2026 17:56:21 2652373 Link 0 |
