Replying To Gaa_lover:  "If he was so popular with Leitrim then why did three quarters of the panel opt out for 2025 season and with that knowledge he stood down leaving the new manager Poacher with a depleted squad and had to throw in a handful of teens to fill the void.

Don't see the time you are suggesting will be given to him unless Mayo are showing progress. Its Results business and McStay only lasted 3 years when 4 was agreed"
Unfortunately it is results driven and that's where unrealistic expectations lead to managers getting gate after 3 years.. It takes a year for a new managers to get to know players...Many co boards are in dreamland. The problems in Leitrim are much deeper than Andy's departure..He can't be blamed for their no show in the league something I never remember happening to any county. I did the realise ¾ of panel left

When his alter ego takes over expect it to implode and he'll limp out the back door, give it 18 months max.

Replying To 3rdmidfielder:  "I wish Andy the best of luck in Mayo he seems like a nice fella but I have to say Square B is 100% right, I watched Leitrim under Andy and we were very badly coached, id argue we were better organised under Poacher towards end of league and Championship/Tailteann this year than we ever were under Andy and that was with basically a new team of kids.
We were beaten by New York and got one of the luckiest promotions of all time in his last year (we lost to Longford and Carlow and still went up).

I don't think he got the job because of any great work he done in Leitrim.

What Andy brings to the table is the players will like him that was the one positive of his time in Leitrim the players seemed to like him, if I was a Mayo fan id hope Paddy Tally will do the bulk of the coaching.

He will have better footballers in Mayo for sure but the competition in division one will be firece."
I think this a very fair assessment and I would be of the same opinion.

That said Monaghan looked well coached this year but ultimately they didn't get any further

It is interesting to see what people outside Leitrim's view the job he did with us.

The general consensus by supporters is lovely fella and very lucky.

I hope this continues and he gets his breaks and continues to decline as a coach. Wishing him and his team the very best.

Andy has the least ego what are you on about . He's a genr and humble to . The players know Leitrim loved him and respected him hence why they got to division 3 . Then the next manager couldn't even get 15 tog out says it all about the type of guy Andy is .

Typical Galwegion just love to see Mayo fail . We have exciting few years ahead it's a rebuild but we've lots of young talent coming up unlike Galway . With Andy and Boyler back we will get back to the top again .

I seen Andy Moran in O'Connell's school car park after this years All Ireland final, the aul fella in charge of parking must be from Mayo, as he called to Andy and asked for his number and told him in future he won't have to be paying for parking there.

As for his appointment, he was a outstanding player and I think he could bring this talented Mayo side back to the top again, there is plenty of talent and he has a really strong backroom team assembled.

I wouldn't associate Andy with ego. A family man and a gentleman. Ambitious yes, then again every single inter county player and manager has ambition or they wouldn't be there.

If the Leitrim players loved and respected him why did ¾ of panel opt out for the 2025 season? It's why Moran stepped down and why his coach Graham jumped ship from Leitrim to Galway.

Poacher and indeed whoever came in was left with impossible task to pick up the pieces and were forced field a handful of teens and then forced give a walk over in a league game due to those young players involved in the U20 championship.

The truth is the Leitrim players loved him.

As for Mikey Graham, let's leave it there.

However I agree with you about Poacher. He came in with an incredibly weak hand and performed well towards the end of the season.

The coming year will be a test for him.

My guess is Andy Moran will energise Mayo, players and fans alike and they will be a force again with players returning.

Wishing Andy Moran the best of luck with Mayo.
Tough job and it would be nice to see him do well.
We need more teams really competing for Sam.
This year was far too predictable.
Hope he does a good job with them.

Good post . I do think Leitrim have lots of young talents coming up and it's been a tough year for you . Your a proud county and will be strong when your under 20s/17s develop and come up .
