Yeah, I felt we'd win that by 6-7. That an issue for you?

And you were on the Donegal forum talking about dung a few weeks.

Beaten by two division 4 teams since then.

Oh dear :)

Well done to Wicklow. They kept in touch and in the end got the result. That was another annoying and avoidable loss. Westmeath 'won' the game three times but couldn't hold onto the momentum or composure when most required. Aughrim has been the graveyard for many teams!

Replying To CleanShoulder:  "That's a disgraceful match to lose from being 8 points up in the second half and with wind advantage. Absolutely no clue when it comes to game management, the turnovers given away in the last few minutes were ridiculous… in possession with less than a minute on the clock and a point up and Wicklow putting no pressure on, just hold onto the ball… handed it back to them for an equaliser and twice more after that to give them a winner. Unbelievable"
Bad decision making cost the game. First 20 could hear McCabe talking about staying out of the 'd' and holding the ball which worked. Game plan differed after where Performance dropped and lead to giving the ball away constantly. Especially the last few attacks toward the end kicking the ball into 3 men near the sideline when hooter gone. Ball only needed to be kicked out.

Hard to know. Generally has attempted to do a lot of good things but we've only managed wins against Antrim,Laois and London. Far too many avoidable losses. Going forward and I think he will get another crack at it, different options required for a number of positions. Very naive at the end in the way we managed game time both on and off the field.

The keeper issue has been a risk and it's a major question mark over McCabe and his selectors. No other county has done it, crucial position and finding two quality keepers will be vital in club championships.

Think Whitaker was a big loss.

Why was the clock stopped for Wicklow goalkeeper to take the free on the big D at the end for the 2 pints

There are no young quality keepers in the county. The best two are Jason Daly and Sean Brennan from Garrycastle. Both men are in their mid 30s.

Conor McCormack played well yesterday. You couldn't really blame him made two brilliant saves in the 1st half to keep us head. The big players out the field McCartan, Loughlin, Wallace and Connellen went missing when the going got tough. All players went hiding on his kickouts the last 10.

With the new rules I see Conor McCormack as the 2nd best forward in the county after Luke Loughlin. With the new rules he will dominate the club championship and if rumours are true he will head off to Australia after. If only McCabe gave him a chance at centre forward.

This is surely a joke. Trevor Martin is well capable of being the goalie for Westmeath but McCabe wanted nothing to do with him.

Maybe we should drop Loughlin , walllace, McCartan etc and just play the entire Caulry team, we'd probably win Leinster!

My thoughts exactly. One of the most talented forwards Westmeath has seen left to waste in the goals.

I'm not a Caurly fan. I'd even go as far as to say Conor McCormack is the only Caurly footballer good enough to play inter county. Tadhg Baker has potential but very young and couldn't believe he want getting game time. He's on for the future though another 2/3 years he will be a starter.

Of course it's your thoughts exactly, it's you under a different username.

Has to be the same person because there's no way Caulry have such a high concentration of egits.

There's a clear lack of leadership on the field. No Westmeath player stood up when it was counted. Someone to lead by example, to drive the others on, someone like the Wicklow 8 Healy. In the 41st minute of the second half, we led 2-12 to 1-7. By the 57th minute, Wicklow were awarded the penalty to make it 2-13 to 2-13. We completely switched off. Wicklow's build up play looked slow and laborious, yet they were able to punch holes in our defence with considerable ease. They threw the ball from side to side and waited for Healy to make the opening. He was our main tormentor, creating a large amount of Wicklow's scores with his powerful running. I think McCabe has done a good job in Year 1 considering the players that were available to him. It was always going to be difficult with so many new players becoming starters straight away. The previous manager left Westmeath football in the lurch. He persisted with the older players, many of whom were obviously past it when he should have been integrating younger players into the team. You can count on one hand how many players he brought through in 2 years.
