Really thought Shane Allen was very impressive last week.Caught some great balls and won a lot of breaking ball around the middle.Would have him starting along with Ray Connellan-both of them would win a lot of first and second ball from kick outs Bruno@1 (Westmeath) - Posts: 264 - 14/06/2025 14:22:02 2617345 Link 0 |
I would say the team posted is irrelevant, definitely going to be 4 or 5 changes you'd think. Allen will definitely start with Connellan in the middle of he's fully fit.

It's debatable whether last year's team was far stronger. We had players on their last legs at that level, they had given great service but this year's side has played very well in every game bar the Limerick one. They have the potential to improve and I'd be confident we'll win today by 6-7. The likes of Charlie Drumm and Conor Dillon will be missed today but Sam Smyth and Shane Allen are fine additions.

You could drive a bus through our defence, on the evidence of the first half. Not sure how we're still leading after a promising first 15 minutes.

Blessed to be ahead here. So open at the back, hopefully we can push on with the breeze at our back Bluelake (Westmeath) - Posts: 271 - 15/06/2025 14:00:08 2617707 Link 0 |
Deluded sense of confidence from the usual. Once again we cannot win close games. Lads are great when they are on top but the minute pressure comes on they crumble. dakid (Australia) - Posts: 314 - 15/06/2025 15:00:38 2617719 Link 1 |
Losing this many tight games isn't just bad luck. Plenty of positives in terms of being competitive over the year but we haven't won a tight game in championship since the tailteann final in 2022. Our game management at the end was shocking Bluelake (Westmeath) - Posts: 271 - 15/06/2025 15:00:55 2617721 Link 0 |
Westmeath never looked comfortable or free flowing. A good display from Wicklow helped by an error prone Westmeath display that lacked intensify. Maroon Heaven (Westmeath) - Posts: 45 - 15/06/2025 15:04:04 2617722 Link 0 |
That's a disgraceful match to lose from being 8 points up in the second half and with wind advantage. Absolutely no clue when it comes to game management, the turnovers given away in the last few minutes were ridiculous… in possession with less than a minute on the clock and a point up and Wicklow putting no pressure on, just hold onto the ball… handed it back to them for an equaliser and twice more after that to give them a winner. Decision making at the end from us was appaling1 by Robbie forde not to fist over and then Luke's decision to take a point on after great work from young baker especially for 2 of the more experienced players on the panel Gcastle1213 (Westmeath) - Posts: 4 - 15/06/2025 15:10:46 2617726 Link 1 |

A fully deserved defeat, very poor, decisions at end were unbelievable, we then stood off Wicklow and let them work their winning score. dec (None) - Posts: 296 - 15/06/2025 15:41:15 2617736 Link 0 |
Don't take it too badly. As somebody else pointed out, nobody died. You wouldn't be the first and won't be the last to underestimate Wicklow in Aughrim.

When you look at the trajectory of the team since winning the Tailteann cup it's alarming. Contrast to the other two sides who have won the competition, Meath in the All Ireland quarter final and Down just a few minutes away from the same, and we've been beaten by Wicklow. Not good CleanShoulder (Westmeath) - Posts: 348 - 15/06/2025 15:45:14 2617738 Link 0 |
Very disappointed, once they got it back to three or four we felt vulnerable particularly as they finished the first half well. Our big players didn't perform unfortunately and that's the nature of it. The fisted effort to put us two up was the killer.
