What is going on with the grading system in the minor football championships ? Who is running it, it is a shambles , ive never seen so many clear pointless mismatches. Some of Sundays results in the A champ: bad.monkey (USA) - Posts: 4672 - 02/09/2025 11:08:34 2634581 Link 0 |
Absolute madness. No wonder our underage is a shambles.... Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 4653 - 02/09/2025 13:05:28 2634605 Link 0 |
That's awful. I notice all of the clubs with big wins are very large clubs, who'd have a big playing base. The numbers game matters at all levels, but especially at underage. It can happen that teams get a hiding, but to have that many on one weekend does indicate a very poor grading system. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2526 - 02/09/2025 14:41:20 2634621 Link 1 |
Nearly a month gone and still no Dublin backroom team announced to work with our new manager Ger Brennan. Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 4653 - 03/09/2025 08:52:42 2634703 Link 0 |

Moyna was always coming in with Ger.Moyna is a top class coach. At last we know the set up.Clucko will be a good addition but hope he stays on the sideline at this stage.Interesting times ahead. Regardless of the long run, teams normally get a first year bounce under a new manager and Im very confident the Dubs will have a good league and will deffo retain Leinster again. Now after that its hard to know but we will be in the mix.

There is not one player in club championship who has stood out other than aging or former county greats. And country lads. Going to be a long long time before Dublin win anything. Sad to say. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3703 - 08/09/2025 00:35:32 2635256 Link 1 |
I think you are spot on, from what I have seen in the Dublin SFC this year. Leinster is the best we can hope for. Division 1 survival will be a tough task. Great to see some of our current players well able to take 2 point scores..... I think the lack of coaching experience from the 3 ex players on Ger's ticket is a worry tbh. Perhaps he has more to come in and join the Coaching setup.??? Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 4653 - 08/09/2025 08:58:36 2635267 Link 0 |
I dont know why you have such pessisim Fionn. We might not be as strong as Kerry but we def in the chasing pack and on any given day can beat any team.Everyone wrote us off in 23 and we still won the All Ireland from division 2. Its worth remembering that we beat Kerry in the final with James McCarthy having his worst final ever and Con being non existent. We might even have Fenton and Mannion back next year but even if not I def wont be writing us off.

I am being realistic. I think you need to take off the Blue Blinkers tbh. All our remaining star players have yet another year on the clock. The age profile of our squad is not in our favour. We have absolutely nothing coming through the ranks, and the club scene is a mish mash of old legends, current squad players, country players, and average club players in teams. Are you actually going to any of the Dublin SFC games this year.? Name me 1 new player who will improve our team.? I can't. Yes, I think 1 or 2 might return for Ger, but we have fallen so far behind others now at this stage. It will be a miracle to catch up next year or the year after. And I think we will lose a couple of players also. Far too much mileage on the clock. We are 14/1 for Sam next year. Kerry are 6/4, according to PP. Armagh, Tyrone, Galway, Donegal are ahead of us, with Derry & Mayo nearly same odds as us. It has been a hell of a long time since we were 14/1 for Sam. And we are at that for a reason. If we had competitive minor or u20 teams, I would be a hell of lot happier but we dont even have that within Leinster now. Dublin CB took their eye off the ball completely imo. I go to a lot of the underage inter county challenge games also and other counties are streets ahead of us. Like I posted earlier - I would currently be happy with a Leinster title and then build on that going forward. Expecting us to be really competitive in the latter stages of the All Ire is not realistic tbh. Expect too much and you will be disappointed. ;o) Only so many times our great players can go to the well, and we have less and less of them great players with each passing season. Look, hopefully they prove me wrong but I wont be counting my chickens on it.... Either way, I will continue to go to all the games and cheer them on... ;o) Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 4653 - 08/09/2025 18:08:54 2635375 Link 0 |
How has Jamie Grant been performing for Ballymun? He played a bit of league football for Donegal during our 2023 annus horribilis but hasn't really featured since. Always felt he was very capable & definitely worth another look at county level.

Was one of "country lads" i was thinking of. Scored a few points from wing back and came in to it well when needed. In good company with Small. He'd definitely ne looked at if Dub.. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3703 - 09/09/2025 07:00:18 2635414 Link 1 |

There are some very good young footballers in Dublin - Charlie McMorrow - Cuala, Joe Quigley - Crokes, Breathnach - BSJ, Luke O'Boyle - Clontarf... but the problem is there is not many players ready to step up to play senior IC now, it is an inevitable consequence following such a golden generation with so many top players playing into their mid 30s bad.monkey (USA) - Posts: 4672 - 09/09/2025 14:27:18 2635464 Link 1 |
