Replying To MachaireConnacht:  "Yea, they targeted the two of them brilliantly. Also some great direct running to either score or draw fouls. To be fair Mayo, especially Conroy very good at that. Something we need to do more of.

Mayo in the Hyde again? I think ours has become a bit more of a group of death, in that I'd give Cavan a better chance of causing an upset and taking a prelim QF place than Westmeath in their's."
Ah we won't bother playing with this attitude. Chronic!

Replying To Drax_the_destroyer:  "You are a bit of moaning Mary aren't you? Championship isn't all about who wins the All Ireland title. Regardless of how ordinary you think any team is it was two Div one teams in action and two big neighbour rivals fighting it out for a provincial title. One needs to appreciate Connacht titles/finals because once they are gone they aren't coming back and memorable moments like that final will be lost to history and folklore."
And you're a Galway man posting over on the Galway page. I'd love to see the Connacht champions becoming All Ireland champions but we both know that won't happen. Dublin and Kerry will pocket their provincial title without fuss and one of them will be All Ireland champions come July.

That is not what I meant. I would still hope we have enough to come at least third. But if I was to ask you who do you think has a better chance of taking a scalp, Westmeath or Cavan?

As Drax says if Roscommon can manage to Marshall ROD and O Shea and be a bit more direct up front we can get a result against Mayo.

Did Gleeson have a save to make yesterday?
We let O'Shea take a long leisurely stroll around our big square till he saw an opening and fired her in.
This despite around 6 Ros players in the vicinity all acting as if "nothing to do with me "

Hopefully that kind of passive stuff will be eradicated for the AI series.

There is more to championship football than just who wins the All Ireland, the scenes in Salthill was proof of that yesterday.

Kerry during the league or yesterday against Div 3 Clare didn't look overly great. Dublin are relying on the old guard and they haven't won a Leinster U20 title for the last 4 years which has to be a concern for them.

Galway only two years ago reached the All Ireland final and that match was level going into added time, Mayo reached All Ireland finals in 2020/21 with a lot of their current players involved.

Each of the Connacht teams will be looking for improvement on last year. In Galway's case having now won Connacht the aim is to reach All Ireland semi final at least again. Mayo will still be aiming for the same but harder to do now after yesterday. All Ireland Quarter appearance would be improvement for Roscommon. Sligo are capable of winning the Tailteann cup this summer.

Galway reached the All Ireland Final in 2022 and were close. Joyce celebrated yesterday but he wants an All Ireland title. He won't get it. Mayo aren't nearly as good now as the team that ran Dublin so close in 2015 and 2016. Roscommon have talented footballers but have gone backwards big time since last year when we were good in the League but couldn't even make the championship quarter final. Hopefully Roscommon improve over the next few weeks but we don't know. Whatever you say, I don't see a winner of the All Ireland other than Dublin or Kerry. Maybe Derry but I doubt it. I'm disappointed as a Connacht man that our province hasn't won Sam for 23 years and it seems ages away before that changes unfortunately,

2 All Irelands to Connacht in 50 years.
Hopefully the players coming on stream the next few years will get jobs near home or be able to work from home.
Traipsing lads across country in buses to training has to be very wearying and probably achieve little.

Weakest Mayo team in a long time. Not impressed with our side line either but fact is we don't have enough quality players at this present time. We are a million miles away from winning an all Ireland which is ultimately what we will be judged on.

73rd year in a row yell be adjudged as failures?
That's a bit harsh!

That's what every other county think about us. We will be laughed at and mocked until we finally win one. God knows we've had enough chances.

Unfortunately you had chances but didn't take them. I sense a resignation among Mayo supporters that there is no All Ireland on the horizon in the foreseeable future. For a few years you had 5 or 6 players constantly in the top group of players in the country, but that day is gone. You will remain a top team but not a top 4 team. You had enough chances to put daylight between yourselves and Galway on Sunday but failed to take them. You will always be the best supported team in the country and it's a joy to see how you allow all the young kids run out at half time on the pitch

Will they remain the best supported team if results continue to dip? lets not forget they were poorly supported in 2010/11 before under Horan the support came out to watch a winning team in action again.

Do we think our 20s have a chance v Tyrone ? I believe Tyrone hammered them in a challenge earlier in the year. However they seem to be a team that can adapt to who they play. I've seen every game and apart from the first 20 mins v Mayo they have been able to mix defending and attacking very well. It's interesting they stick to the formula of bringing in Dowling Walsh ,Reilly etc and are always finishing very strong. They are physically very strong and aren't afraid to use it which is not like Roscommon teams. Credit to the coaches and mgmt too. Haven't seen them all year they are a very well drilled team that seem to know what they are doing and how they want to play. You would have to wonder do how can our u20s assemble a better coaching team than our seniors ? The 20s have some fella from Clare they rate highly that's apparently with Dublin too and we couldn't get him . Instead we let 2 tops lads go in McHugh and McGowan and don't replace them. How does that happen ?

Yes for the Connacht Final 2011 when we were a Div 4 team that spring we outnumbered Mayo 3 to 1 in support in 20k plus crowd. Mayo just about won that game and brought a small sized crowd against the defending All-Ireland champions Cork in Croke Park and won which then attracted a big following after that.

I think after 2012 and 2013, as good as they were and as close as they came after this, I think ye needed a manager outside the county to push ye over the line such was the mental baggage at that point.

Of course we can beat Tyrone in the under 20 semi-final this Saturday. We certainly owe them one after they beat us in the under All Ireland under 21 semi final in 2015. Several players from both teams went on to have good senior careers; E. Smith, D. Murtagh U. Harney, T. O' Rourke, R. Daly etc for Roscommon; and P. Hampsey, K.McGeary, F. Burns, C McShane C. Meyer etc for Tyrone. No doubt many of the players playing this Saturday will do likewise.
I give Roscommon a 50/50 chance as they have a never say die spirit about them, work very hard, play as a team, have a good substitute bench with a management team not afraid to use them and some excellent players who can score goals. I think the Galway team that we beat had a few outstanding players who will also step up to senior and that win should not be under estimated. So hoping for the best next Saturday in Cavan.

McGuinness maybe. Not sure about mental baggage. We had a team that would probably have won an all Ireland in any other era but for Dublin and even at that we should have taken them at least once probably twice.

We still have good footballers we always do but we've fallen back into the pack. Top eight team for sure. Thought we were poor on Sunday overall and Galway who are now suddenly been seen as possible all Ireland contenders bet us by a point!

What's yer feeling on meeting us again? We've an "easier" game v Cavan first up but you just never know. We made hard work of Louth last year. Cork beat us and then beat ye…something that shouldn't have happened both teams.
