Very negative reaction to Galway who have won their first 2 championship games by an average of 14.5 points., scoring 6 goals and conceding zero. Derry talked about as champions roasted, Kerry get a scare too. It's only April.

It's only April and our next game is only the Connacht Final!

To be fair you're not comparing like with like.
Derry were playing a rejuvenated Donegal team under McGuinness who won division 2.
Sligo aren't at that level although they were a bit unlucky not to get promotion to division 2.
Not sure what the average margin over the two games has to do with anything - London are brutal.
The reason for the negativity is the performances we're seeing all season. We look like a team that's going nowhere this year & that can't be ignored

That's true. Sligo on their day are capable of punching well above their weight. I remember several years ago, they pushed a good Kerry team very hard in a qualifier in Sligo.

It seens a lot of returning players' reputations are shorting. Mattie has to prove he's not just a big man for the small occasion. We need Tomo Culhane back for his drive and oopportunism.

I was burying my head in my hands when I heard the Saturday afternoon thing mentioned.
When the game is played should have absolutely no relevance to your motivation level.

Well done to the Galway football team and management for their victory in Sligo against a well-drilled Sligo team who played out of their skin in their bid to stay in Sam. Galway showed great spirit and character in grinding out the win. This will stand to them in future tests. And no kudos to the referee who gave Galway absolutely nothing. The refereeing is becoming a real big issue in the GAA and will need to be addressed in the interests of fairness. Gaillimh Abū.

They'll be decent players in time hopefully but they aren't at this level yet.
It's amazing that our kickout "strategy" five years into Pjs reign is literally still boot it as far as possible and hope for the best.
Our transition game when we win a turnover is still to crab sideways and backwards and "be patient" - hence giving the opposition all the time in the world to get their defence organised again.
It's chronically slow - no runners bombing ahead of the ball to take advantage of the opposition being out of shape.
These are all things that we have been guilty of for the past number of seasons and are still guilty of now.
We're simply not learning or evolving our game"
Lack of pace and direct running at the opposition is an issue for this team no doubt. The only players I can see capable of doing that are McGrath (but he's a cornerback), Flaherty (when he plays), Walsh (when he is in form but can be very inconsistent) and Heaney (who doesn't do it often enough IMO). There is no "kick-out strategy" except to hoof it down the field as far as possible where the opposition mop it hop most of the time. Galway have become too predictable, ponderous and still have too many sloppy turnovers to challenge the Dublin's and Kerry's of this world. Also the management team does make a big difference - PJ and co seem to be on the slippery slope downhill for the last year. Look at the difference "Jimmy's Winning Matches McGuinness" has made to Donegal since he returned as they now seem highly motivated full of pace and scoring power - this was a team that were rock-bottom less than a year ago.

Did you actually listen to the interview?

"Padraig what's the excuse for the down performance"

"Ah sure lookit there's no excuse, way off it, Sligo the better team, lucky to get outta here with a win, trained well during the week but no excuses".

"Yeah but padraig, is there any excuse for them not getting to the pitch of the game"

And on and on it went until he gave a small line about half 3 on a Saturday but that it's their own fault if they can't get motivated. And went back to saying no excuses etc.

It's madness how people will find anything to have a go at someone over

D'Arcy I think has come on a lot and I feel he runs at other teams. He's direct and he causes problems. I've been proven wrong by him. He has courage anyway.

Yes he has definitely improved as he was lacklustre in the league to say the least but he needs to find more of a finishing touch as he missed sitters of a goal and a point yesterday.

And the fly goalie thing completely backfired on Derry, if they had Gleeson they would have won. Sick and tired of the loser posters on this site.

Very true - Lynch the Derry goalie conceded 3 goals as a result of going wandering out the field and he kept doing it! In fairness I have been critical of Gleeson but he seems to be getting a bit more solid even though he is still very slow kicking it out - there is no kick-out strategy in place overall and any long kick-outs are being mopped up by opposition players.

Most goalkeepers who do this aren't as blatant as Lynch at it and Jim McGuinness knew this.Oys not the first time that Odhran Lynch has been caught out. That doesn't mean you don't need a goalkeeper who can play a bit of football as well.

To be fair galway and sligo were one result away from Div 2 this year so gap not as huge as pundits think. I do feel Galway will kick on from this and AI semi finalists for me. Hopefully Sligo TC winners this year.

That mayo midfield might actually suit Gleeson. Roscommon won the majority of the long kick outs especially in the first half and they don't have a great midfield. He will just have to go long in the final.

Sligo not getting enough credit for yesterday. They may be DIV 3 team but less than 10 months ago, played in the qualifiers where Kildare beat Ross but only drew with Sligo. The games they had V Galway, Dubs, Ross and Kildare have brought then on loads and they were unlucky not to come up. The question now is, how much store will PJ and Kevin put on winning Connacht to avoid Dublin, Kerry and possibly Donegal in the group stage. I think they will both go All In to win Connacht.
