Can I remind you that Galway are without Silke, Hernon, McLaughlin, McDaid, Conroy, Tierney, Walsh, Comer and Patrick Kelly. Sean Kelly only came back last week from a long term injury so is not up to speed yet and Glynn only came on as a sub after a long term injury today.

No matter what way you dress it up Galway were missing a lot more key players than Derry.

Best of luck for the rest of the season, I do hope we meet again.

D'Arcy was very good today. I take it all back. Maher part II if he keeps it up. Still looks a bit big maybe. But very good.

Replying To Gilberto_Eire:  "No I did not... I said we couldn't score. There's a massive difference between the two.
A team should be scoring more than a point every ten minutes against even numbers, against less you'd expect more consistent scoring.
Hence my point we couldn't score as we had no impact with an extra player."
Stop it you are ridiculous probably watched it on tv too

Replying To Gilberto_Eire:  "What's ridiculous?.

Are we getting value for money?.. I believe we spent close to the most last year.

Do our backs not play the ball too much and hand pass to forwards in the corner?.

Bar the penalty and black card... Sure if Man United didn't concede two yesterday they'd have won.
They were not contentious calls where it's and buts may be applicable.
He punched a player about to shoot for goal, lucky it wasn't a red as it was dirty tbh and Mulkerrins shouldn't be up in the FF line anyway, his hand wasn't pulled in from his side, he put it in and Rogers made sure he couldn't pull it away.
I find those comments ridiculous... Works both ways."
They didn't spend anywhere close to the most. When you break it down by team, which includes the senior hurling, u20 and minor teams, and also football underage, they were very average on spend. Stop ranting

D'Arcy was playin very well and was taking off, it's going to be another year off excuses from Joyce and management. We are heading for division 2.

Thought Galway actually battled pretty hard to day against an almost full strength Derry side. Game swung on N Daly's 2 missed goal chances and then immediately Molloy gives the ball away in midfield and we get 2 black cards and a penalty given against us in a few minutes. I think all 3 black cards today including Derry's one were very harsh. Ref was struggling to keep up with the play.

Hard to judge anything really as the level of injuries is just a killer. They are battling very hard apart from the Mayo game but are just missing so many quality players now that it shows on the field.

Word of praise for Johnny McGrath who has been doing some unbelievable marking jobs on some top class forwards. Think they've only scored 0-3 from play against him in 4 games.

I was surprised when Darcy came off as it was his best game I've seen him play for Galway.

Thought it was a good performance today, they give it everything, John Daly and John Maher were both excellent. Sean Fitz did nothing wrong, McGrath is a top class corner back and Dylan McHugh played very well. Up front we struggled though, not from lack of effort or bravery but by the start of the second half we had Kelly, Sweeney, Heaney and Molloy in our forward all backs and a midfielder in full forward so it was bound to be difficult to get scores.
Gleeson is much criticised ( a lot of the time justly) but he had a very good game today.

What other position do ye think Sean Kelly could play if not playing at full back?

I can see him at wing back or midfield.
2. McGrath
3. Fitzgerald
4. Silke
5. McHugh
6. Daly
7. Kelly
I think O'Flaherty is going well, I'm a big fan of Hernon who was a revelation last summer and Molloy to be fair to him is improving each day since coming back from injury. We don't have the same options up the other end, probably
10. Heaney
11. Tierney
12. Sweeney
13. Finnerty
14. Comer
15. Walsh

Bizarre as it sounds, I thought there were lots of positives today. We missed 2 goal chances and it concluded with us being reduced to 13 and conceding a penalty.

I thought before the penalty we were starting to dominate. However, out shooting was abysmal and Derrys point taking early emphasized how bad is was.

Darcy was playing well. Not sure why he was withdrawn. Hopefully not injured.

OConaihle was busy but made poor decisions. Finnerty was hit and miss.

Thought Gleeson should have done better for first goal. Went straight down the middle

Molloy's form is worrying. Horrific hand pass for goal. That happens. What worries me is his lack of zip. And that is what he always has ZIP.

Bumped into a lot of the squad players walking to the match. It was like meeting an all star team Tierney, Silke, Mcdaid, Walshe etc really bright it home what we have to come back hopefully. Thought I saw McLaughlin with them...... Some huge blonde guy with a mullet anyway ...... Not 100% who it was

I assumed he was injured. Very bad to take him off if he wasn't injured. Won't help the lads confidence. Niall Daly obviously missed that goal chance but he scored a point and bloody tried a few shots at least. But he'll probably not even get a minute of action next weekend.

What are you basing that on?

First county to pass 2 million and up another 500k would signify that you're talking out of your hat saying it's average.

And obviously it's all teams but that's still 100k for the senior teams which was the point I made.

Anyone else get a parking fine today? I got a very harsh one for barely being on a footpath. You could push a hospital bed along the amount of footpath I was supposed to be blocking. They papered every car on the same road too with fines.

It's criminal the amount of clear cut goal chanches were missing by kicking from just a few yards out into the goalies outstretched hands. When you can see the colour of the goalkeeper's eyes then you should be putting those chanches away much like the U/12s I'm sure. We still have a few passengers in the forwards but McGrath and Maher werw brilliant on Sunday

Molloy is in a very bad run of form. His position now must be under major threat.

Lose to Monaghan and its curtains for Div 1 football.

Despite the defeat, I thought Galway played well in patches and never gave up. Very unlucky at times and some bad wides hurt us. Ref made some dodgy calls and gave glass a few handy frees. Derry were the better team no doubt though.

Gleeson: Solid yesterday, his nice chip kickout to McHugh started the Darcy goal move. Couldn't do anything about the goals, if Heaney had closed down the shooter, Gleeson would probably have saved the 1st goal because it was central. Heaney was in his way.
McGrath: Excellent.
Fitzgerald: Really improving and did well yesterday.
Mulkerrin: The black card was harsh but he shouldn't be giving the ref an excuse. Would like to see Glynn in his place next week.
McHugh: Much improved from last week and brought pace and directness.
Daly: Much better attacking performance but Derry went through the middle very easily a few times. He needs to be better.
Molloy: Not upto it, no pace. His handpass ultimately cost us the game although I thought it was a harsh call by the ref to be fair to Molloy. Give Flaherty that spot next week.
Maher: One poor miss but did so much good work. Can't wait to see him with McDaid.
Darcy: I've been very critical of him previously but he did well enough yesterday. One good fetch and the finish for the goal was excellent, could teach the forwards a lesson in finishing.
Heaney: Good. Got on a lot of ball and kept plugging away. Poor kickpass over the sideline and shouldn't be taking frees.
Daly: Scored a great point in the first half and won a good ball. But the miss in the 2nd half will annoy him. I'd like to see him again.
Sweeney: Industrious as usual. Probably a championship starter now.
Conaighle: He's not short of confidence to take on a shot but quality is lacking. Maybe time to give Cunningham or someone else a run next week.
Flaherty: Good point and was prominent in the 1st half. Would like to see him take Molloy's place next week.
Finnerty: Good link play for the goal. But his shooting was terrible. He needs to improve massively or his place will surely be doubtful for championship.
SUBSTITUTES
Kelly: Another half of football in the legs is only good news. Wasn't amazing but still brought more pace.
O'Curraoin: Scored a nice point. I think he has more potential than O'Conaighle but maybe not the pace.
Glynn: Good to see him back, needs to take his chance in order to get back in the team.

Assuming everyone is still injured but hoping we have Conroy back, here's a team I'd like to see start next week.

Gleeson
McGrath Fitzgerald Glynn
Flaherty Daly McHugh
Maher Conroy
Sweeney Heaney Kelly
Cunningham O'Curraoin Finnerty
