Naomh Conaill got their first win in this year’s Donegal senior football championship by defeating Aodh Ruadh by 0-25 to 1-13 at Fr Tierney Park yesterday.

After going in level on 0-8 apiece at the break, the holders, who drew with Downings last weekend, found another gear in the second-half and it was two-pointers by John O’Malley and Ciaran Thompson early in the restart that got them motoring.

Not even a Senan Rooney goal could derail Glenties’ momentum, as Eoghan McGettigan (0-7) and Brendan McDyer sent over scores prior to McGettigan landing a fine two-point effort.

The closing stages saw McGettigan, Keelan McGill and Karl Gallagher all firing over points to put a seal on the victory for the defending champions.

Meanwhile, Gaoth Dobhair recorded a 1-16 to 0-13 win against Naomh Colomba at in Pairc na nGael.

Minus the services of county man Dáire Ó Baoill, Gaoth Dobhair were able to record their second victory of the competition here as they dominated the first-half with the help of Ethan Harkin’s scores and a goal from Cathal Rua Gallagher to go in at the break leading by 1-9 to 0-2.

Naomh Colomba would manage to cut their deficit back down to four late as Shane Callaghan (free) and Alex Cunnea (two-pointer) in the latter stages before Adam Mac Iomhair’s two-pointer secured victory for his team.
