Cian O’Neill has left his role within the Kerry senior football management set-up.

Irish Examiner sports editor Tony Leen was the first to report that head coach O’Neill will not be part of Jack O’Connor’s backroom team for 2027.

O’Neill, who managed his native Kildare from 2016 to 2019, has also coached within the Limerick, Mayo and Galway senior football set-ups.

The past two seasons saw O’Neill serve as head coach as Kerry captured their 39th All-Ireland SFC title last season before returning to the final again last month, where they lost out to Mayo by three points.

Following O’Neill’s departure, it’s understood that Dingle clubman Shane O’Rourke is set to join O’Connor’s backroom team as a strength and conditioning coach.

O’Rourke has previously worked as an S&C coach within the Clare senior football and Kerry senior hurling set-ups.
