Tomas Kennedy’s point at the death saw Kerry snatching a 2-18 to 1-20 win in this afternoon’s Allianz Football League Division 1 first round clash against Roscommon at Fitzgerald Stadium.
The visitors had overcome the concession of a second goal via David Clifford (penalty) to send over a string of points, including three from Daire Cregg, before Jack Duggan’s effort put them on the front foot with 68 minutes on the clock.
Clifford levelled for the All-Ireland champions ahead of Diarmuid Murtagh shooting over a free from distance for a two-point lead, but there’d still be time for Clifford (free) to level and Kennedy grabbed the winner just in the nick of time.
Kerry had been 0-8 to 0-4 up when Diarmuid Murtagh hammered in the game’s first goal for the Rossies on 27 minutes, with points from Cregg and Keith Doyle steering the visitors in front before Kennedy found the net in the run up to half-time (1-9 to 1-6).
Mark Dowd’s side threatened the upset in the second-half, but Kennedy would come up trumps again for the holders just as the hooter sounded in Killarney (watch it below).
