Glenullin (Derry) landed the Ulster club intermediate football championship title thanks to a 3-15 to 0-19 win over Cuchulainns (Cavan) at St Tiernach’s Park, Clones.

The Derry champions recovered from a slow start, which saw them falling 0-4 to 0-0 behind, to draw the game level through Ryan McNicholl’s goal in the 16th minute and kick for a 1-7 to 0-7 lead come the interval after a brace of points from Neil McNicholl were backed up by a two-pointer from the same player.

Donal O'Kane and former Derry forward Eoin Bradley stretched the lead for Glenullin ahead of Bradley getting in for their second goal on the 37th minute.

Cuchulainns got scores back via Adam O’Reilly (two-pointer), Niall Magee and county man Niall Carolan before Bryan Magee’s free from distance made it a four-point game with nine minutes remaining.

Chrissy Dempsey’s point looked to steady Glenullin’s ship before two Bradley frees were wiped out by O’Reilly’s two-pointer at the other end and Turlough Farrelly’s score would leave a goal in it heading into injury-time.

Ryan Tobin left two between the sides on the hour mark prior to Neil McNicholl hammering in the decisive goal at the other end to put a seal on Glenullin’s provincial triumph.
