Tributes have been paid after the passing of Cavan’s last surviving All-Ireland SFC medal winner Paddy Carolan yesterday (Friday).
A member of Cavan’s 1952 Sam Maguire Cup winning squad, Paddy lined out in the Breffni men’s forward line when they defeated Meath in a replay to capture the county’s fifth All-Ireland SFC crown.
He played in some of the county's most memorable battles and has been described as "one of the cornerstones of Cavan football in the 1950s".
The Mullagh man has been described by his club Cuchulainns as “a true legend of Cavan football, a loyal club member & passionate supporter", adding that his contribution to the club “was immense” having been instrumental in its foundation in 1969.
Paddy would go on to serve as the Mullagh club’s football manager in the 1980s and most recently as club President.
