Kildare football great Johnny Doyle completed last Sunday's Dublin Marathon in a personal best time of 2:55:58.

The sub three-hour marathon shaved more than 20 minutes off the 3:15:57 time the super-fit 48-year-old clocked at the same event 12 months ago. Doyle averaged just under 6:44 per mile or approximately 4:11 per kilometre, which is some going. Indeed, he finished 86th out of 2,060 competitors in his age category.

Johnny hasn't lined out for his beloved Allenwood since scoring the goal which saved them from SFC relegation last year, but is still going as strong as ever, albeit in a different sport.

One of his county’s greatest ever players, Doyle won Leinster SFC honours with the Lilywhites in 2000 and an All-Star in 2010 before announcing his inter-county retirement in 2014.

Over the next decade, he continued to excel for Allenwood and helped them to county and Leinster club IFC titles in 2023 to add to the SFC medal he won with them in 2004.
